Time for a new pc!!

What should I get? Would like to play some of the new games out there, and the kids can surf the net. Should I get a powerful desktop or a laptop like Alienware? Also what specs should I get for gaming?

Thanks!

With over 1500 posts, I would think you know that you should put a price range in your help post?

Would also help if you mentioned which games you'd like to play.

I'd recommend getting a gaming desktop instead of a laptop as the price/performance ratio is so much greater. Alienware is pretty overpriced IMHO but I'm assuming building one yourself is out of the question?

With over 1500 post(?), there is no budget for my computer . Just wondering what everybody suggest, uses and then build a budget from there, but thanks for the input Chengbin!!

As I mentioned I would like to play some the new games out on the market , there are many to choose from not stuck to any style of gaming, like them all sports, first player, online ect... With some after thoughts, I guess with building one myself is not out of the question, one idea worth exploring over a pre built!! Thanks Reflecks

I'd say just buy a desktop or custom build one yourself, Unless you go portable a lot then that's when you go for a Gaming Laptop. Don't wanna pay extra for a feature you don't use (Portability).

If you do decide to build a desktop or build one, Do you want a monitor or just a rig only? Mouse or Keyboard?

Again, we need a budget.

For $1000, you can build a very good system capable of running most games smoothly. With $1500-$2000, you can build an even better system, but with style (good looking case, mouse, keyboard).

Tell us your requirements, and we'll think of something for you.

Chenbing: Again budget is not set, lets see whats out there and I will go from there. If you must money is no object for my computer!! I want to try games of no particular liking to any type, and the for the kids and the net for homework.

What do I need for a kick azz system for todays most demanding games, online and wil be in use for awhile.

There are so many different combination, that you'll never find an itemized list without a budget. I could literally go to ncix.com, sort it by price, and scroll down till $600+ range for each part if there's no limit. There HAS to be a limit on the price, so one can say get this part, save this much for this part, put more into that part. There are keyboard and mice that literally cost hundreds of dollars with back-lit keys, programmable, lcd screens. If you really have no limit, I don't know what you're doing on RFD haha.

Are there any specific games you want to play that came out recently? Then one can look at the maximum specification and go from there. Name one that you're interested in and people can get an idea.

I'ma assign the OP a budget, Budget Is $3000. $3000 Is easily good enough to handle any game coming out soon, FF14 and Diablo III when It comes out, SCII blah blah blah!

Now make this man a computer! If the OP says he doesn't agree with me giving him a budget then he can go build his own computer! :>!

Oh and he needs a Monitor, Mouse and Keyboard!

Kohu: The last game that I played on the pc was MOHAA and COD 1, before that was NOLF and they were fun at the time esp. online, so are there any games like that out there now? Looks like there is a COD 4 we can build off of that game. A full system also, plz!

like jimboski said I need a monitor and keyboard mouse combo!

What about a Dell?

Thanks!

Paying that much for a computer in this day and age is insane. You're better off just upgrading more frequently.

if budget is no problem, and you want to 'game on the go', an ASUS G73Jh-A3 or B1 or G73Jw-A1. . All three are at www.GenTechPC.com, and are awesome machines with Fhd 1920x1080i, 1tb HDD (A3 w/ 8gb SSD hybrid), A/B1 and A3 w/ ATI 5870 1gb GDDR5, Jw with nVidia 460m 1.5gb GDDR3.

All (if bought at anywhere but BB) have 1 yr Accident and 2 yr parts warranty.

980X won't work in SMP.

What the SR-2s need is a pair of Xeon X5680.

Here's my modest dream build with no budget.

EVGA SR-2
2x X5680
24GB DDR3
4x Sandforce SSD
Areca Arc-1222
Corsair AX1200
Lian Li PC-P80
3x GTX480

BTW, you can build a 12 core, 24 thread machine for around $2500 with "special" chips (ES) off ebay.

Dual socket 5520 board and 2 hex xeons :D

But yea, it just shows that having a 'no budget' option will get you that.

Remember to budget for 3 more 30" LCD and some watercooling too
