Graphics problem on my laptop

Hey guys,

I've been trying to figure out whats wrong with my laptop, but I cant figure it out..

All drivers are updated. Here is what is happening to me:

I get these distortions everywhere.. browsing the web, pdfs, microsoft word etc... as soon as I mouse over the distorted area, or scroll up and down the page - it goes back to normal.

Any ideas?

no, it isnt... My machine runs cool, and this happens within 10 seconds of windows booting up.

Its a t400. Actually I think I may have found the problem... the laptop came with 2 GB of ram (2 dimm) - a couple months ago I bought a 4GB stick, so my setup was 5 GB total (4+1).

I just took the 4 gb stick out and put the 1 back in for 2 gb total (1+1)..back to the original setup - and the problem went away..

So now my question is... is my 4gb of ram a bad stick? I got it from newegg about 3 months ago (Patriot brand), or does this possibly have something to do with running 4 and 1 gb sticks (non dual channel)

I run windows 7 x64.

thanks!
