How do you supply yourself with plastic bags for pet waste?
I will need 1-3 plastic bags per day to dispose of cat waste.
Do grocery stores have a problem selling their plastic bags en masse? If I went in and asked cashiers for 60 plastic bags at once, would they sell me them without a hassle? Counting out the bags wouldn't seem like an efficient use of their time.
Or is there another way to acquire massive amounts of plastic bags at once?

when I shop at walmart, I go to the self checkout and put each item I buy in it's own bag. Theres no 5 cent scam in Durham Region so they don't charge. If I run out of bags then I have the dollarama ones too.

The thread is serious.
I've never before had to dispose of pet waste so I sincerely don't know how its done.
Thanks for posting the link. The problem with those bags for me is that they make it too obvious that they are poop bags. I live in an apartment complex and the lady who takes out the garbage bins is somewhat crazy. For that reason, I'd prefer to make it as inconspicuous as possible that I'm loading up the bins with bags of cat poop. By inconspicuous, I mean bags that aren't marked as poop bags on the outside of the bag itself, and also bags that that are not transparent.
Thanks also to you guys for suggesting the Dollar Store. Hopefully they will have some non-marked and non-transparent bags.

I go to Loblaws every weekend and start grabbing tons of the clear plastic bags and stuffing them in my pockets.
Sometimes I see an almost finished roll and have been tempted to just take the whole thing.... but never did.

Get yourself a large coffee can with a lid. Put one plastic bag inside, then put your litter box deposits in it. Use the lid to keep smells down. When full tie it up and place in the trash. Throw little baking soda into the bottom of the can to help control odours.
The poop bags I have seen at the dollar store/walmart are just small brown bags, no writting on them at all.
I have gone into No Frills and purchases just shopping bags before to use at a Cub Camp. Just go in when it's not busy.

Dollar stores sell bags for cheap.
I get tonnes from people in the office. One co-worker's parents shop a lot in Chinatown where they don't charge for bags so they acquire loads of bags and are the types of people who save everything. Every few months my co-workers leaves bags and bags of bags on my desk.

Just keep a garbage bin in your apartment and dump the little bags into a regular garbage bag which gets thrown out with the regular trash (or more regularly).
I find those dollar store poop bags too small (I have a big dog...) so I took the suggestion of another RFDer and bought a box of "biodegradable t-shirt bags" from costco. I have no idea what a t-shirt bag is, but to me its just like a regular plastic bag thats a bit smaller than a grocery store bag. I bought a box of 2000 bags for 22 bucks or something.

I have always reused bags from around the house. My favourite is the outside bag from the 4l bag of milk as they are sturdy. One brand has started putting holes in each corners so avoid that. I also use bread bags and bagels bags. If you get home delivery of the newspaper, those bags are useful. I find that most grocery store bags are useless as they always have wholes in them or even minute tears.
I have a bag holder from Ikea in which I store the bags by the litter box. After I scoop, I put the used bags in an old plastic litter container and shut the lid to keep the smell contained until the bag is full and ready to be thrown in the garbage.

I thought you are supposed to use the biodegradable ones so that you can put it in the green bin.

there's no point if your litter isn't biodegradable eg. clay, i think crystals aren't biodegradable either though i'm not too sure about that one

the dollar store sells package of 3 rolls(60 bags in total) for like $2 and they're biodegradable. regular garbage doesn't break down easily. Think about how many you have to go through in a year. 2x30days=60bags a month x 12 month = 720 bags a year. That's alot of bags that can't be properly decomposed of and that's only from one dog! Everyone needs to quit using non-biodegradable bags to pick up after their dogs.

In Toronto, you can use any plastic bag in the Green bin. I live in Peel and our litter goes in the garbage not the green bin so again, you can use any bag.

Is that how often you clean your cats litter?
Gee, we do ours maybe 1-2x a week!
