Worth Getting- Sony BD-VE370 HTIB?

Hi all. As the title says, I am looking at getting an entry-level blu-ray HTIB system for my 32" TV.

A local A/V shop has the Sony BD-VE370 home theatre on special for $320 this weekend.

Seems to be a pretty good deal.

A few salient points:

System power is 850W RMS, 3D-ready blu-ray player (for if I ever get a 3DTV)
It looks like it has wireless rear speakers (Sony S-Air)
Passive sub, but I can live with that
System is going to be ~20' away from my gigabit router so I don't need a WiFi connection, and the Sony disc player that must be in here (S370 or S470) gets really good reviews.
The room it is going in is about 16'x20', so not large by any means.

I am just looking for a decent first time blu-ray system, and $400 is about all I have to spend ATM.

My current stereo is circa 2002 and as such lacks modern inputs on the receiver(like SPDIF, toslink, HDMI)

Do you think this is worth getting, or should I just grab the Sony S470 blu-ray player on sale for $200 and piece together an audio system one component at a time?

Any help is appreciated. :)

If anyone thinks it is decent, I will grab one tomorrow.

Regards,

Fenian

In general, a home theater in a box is never a good idea. You get what you pay for (in other words, LOW quality and false specifications). I'm sure this will be better than your stereo from 2002 but don't expect anything decent to come out of that box.

By the way, the included subwoofer in that system is a 6-incher. That right there is a joke even if you swallow all the other shortcomings.

Well,HTIB without proper amp\receiver do sucks, but grab an Onkyo ST-H3300 for 400$ and it's pretty good considering the price

Even so...I'm quite skeptical about how "good" a 5.1 setup will be when it sells for $320. I wholeheartedly believe in the concept of getting what you pay for. By that token, you have to pay much more to get good sound.

Thanks- I thought that this might be a decent system as it normally sells for ~$700, this is just a doorcrasher special for $320.

Here is a link from another retailer:

Any suggestions for a good receiver to start with then? I can always re-use my old speakers for now.

Thanks for the replies everyone... Had a look at the BD-VE370 today and it was a joke, the speakers were smaller than my hands

I wound up going with a Sony HTSS360 unit that I found being cleared out at my local FS for $200 and paired it with a Sony S470 blu-ray player. Looks pretty good so far!
