I'm looking to join a few others in the Eastern Ontario area (Ottawa, Cornwall, Kingston, etc.) who are interested in ordering a home theatre receiver from the U.S. where the major brands are significantly less expensive. By combining our orders, we could take advantage of lower incremental shipping per item to Canada, or take advantage of free shipping to a UPS (or other) store at a U.S. border town and have one of the members of the group pick up the order and bring it back to Canada. To illustrate, J&R Electronics will ship one receiver to Canada for approx. $US 100, but the cost for 3 would only be approx. $US 180 (not including any duties and HST). Alternatively, shipping to a U.S. border town is typically free so the only cost to group members would be gas and bridge crossing and UPS holding fees (around $35 total I imagine), and time. I'd be okay with either of these options.

Members would be able to choose the make and model they want as long as it was offered by whichever vendor the group decided to go with. I expect that the selected vendor would be able to match the best prices available. You should note that the biggest downside to buying from the U.S. is the likely loss of warranty in Canada as well as the increased inconvenience if you need to RMA a product. Hopefully, the cost savings would be worth it.

Please PM me if you're interested.
