I have a pair of old bookshelf speaker that I want to use with my computer. I need a small stereo amplifier. I found this (http://www.amazon.ca/PTA2-40-Watt-Stereo-Power-Amplifier/dp/B0013CDZDI/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1288843790&sr=8-14) but it cost $115 when the same thing is just $55 in USA. I don't want to pay such a rip off price, so is there any recommendation on small amplifier at a reasonable price?

Altec Lansing 711A if you can find one. Can be had for about 20-30 used.

I picked up a Lepai 2020 on eBay. There are various sellers offering them for ~$25 CDN from Hong Kong, shipping took about 10-15 days but it works well. It's 2 channel, can handle RCA or 3.5 mm input. Power switches on/off as well. The unit is hooked up to a pair of in wall speakers in a basement playroom. Works well enough for the purpose.

I'll be buying some more to do a multi zone audio system on the cheap.

Good suggestion. I was looking for a small inexpensive stereo amp to use with my spare speakers last year and couldn't find one. I ended up taking one out of an old set of computer speakers, but the sound quality of the Lepai is probably better.
