Got this flyer in my mailbox, why should I shell out this kind of money when I can get a generic weight scale for $20 or even $50 at any electronics store? (BTW notice in the picture that the price is after a $692 discount!)

it's super duper sensitive/accurate for measuring solids fractions of mgs

my chem lab had a bunch of them just like that

there's other sciency features like changing reference atms and stuff but i never learned all that rubbish

Haha. Because it's one meant for science.

It gives you 4 decimal places, giving more significant digits (precision)

I'm thinking your $20-$50 scale wouldn't weigh things accurately to such small measurements.

What everyone else has said. Scales used in science aren't cheap. We have one similar, for most things I don't use it, but when measuring small quantities, its got doors on all sides also, to prevent even air currents causing fluctuations (measurement at that scale, looking at it can cause it to fluctuate) Run of the mill stuff, theres no use for something that accurate..
