I'm driving a VW Jetta and recently my windshield is hit by a stone chip. Does anyone know where to get it replaced at a cheap price? Thanks!

If the chip isn't too big and not directly in your field of view, then most auto glass repair places can apply some sealant in there to stop it from spreading and your insurance company will likely cover the cost (approx. $20-30) without a deductible. I don't think it counts as an incident that impacts your premiums, either (but I stand to be corrected in this).
I see guys doing this service in most large parking lots (Walmart, Cdn Tire, etc.), but I would rather go to an auto glass place than someone doing this as a summer job.

Call Windshields Canada, they do a good job and are located at Dixie and Derry in Mississauga/Brampton area.

Ps: yes, watch out for the mobile operators, many are pretty sketchy and cut -alot- of corners, although of course some are good.

As a fellow dubber, here are some things I know or experienced...
1. The cheapest OEM glass replacement I've heard of is $300 in Scarborough. I can't remember the shop but if you do a search on vwvortex, you might find it.
2. I replaced mine for $500 at Apple Autoglass in Scarborough. We went through insurance and my deductible was $300. It comes out of comprehensive insurance. My insurance premiums went down the following two years.
3. If you plan on repairing the stone chip, do not. Let the stone chip sit until it cracks. The repair will sometimes cause the stone chip to crack immediately. If the repair is successful, it's not. You will still be able to see traces of the repair / stone chip. If you must replace, it is possible to get OEM glass and for cheap. My $500 glass was not OEM (it did not have VW/Audi on it).
4. Don't bother replacing the windshield until you have to (i.e. it cracks big time). Chances are once you replace the windshield you will get another stone chip. (I did.)

Agreed. Called them up and they picked up the car to replace the windshield and drove it back when it was completed. Very Happy with the service. Really fast and efficient.

As another fellow dubber, I say check out Speedy Gonzales. They are probably the best deal you will find AND they are mobile.
Local dubbers have nothing but good things to say about them.

I'm curious why everyone assumes the OP is located in the GTA. His profile doesn't say that and this post (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=501253) indicates that y'all aren't even close. (My Canada includes the Center of the Universe AND the wet coast.) That post also explains why the OP wants to get the windshield repaired/replaced at a cheap price.
P.S. In modern cars the windshield is a critical element in the structural integrity of the vehicle. Make sure that whoever replaces it uses authorized parts and does it according to the car manufacturer's procedure.

I went here to get my windshield changed on my Camry. Excellent job:

As others have said, be careful where you go. Proper Windshield installation is key to proper air bag deployment and roof structural integrity. Here is a story on 20/20 about this:

The only problem with going throught the Insurance company for the Windshield replacement is the fact that you will lose the 'claim free' discount of 10%. If you discount is more than the cost of the windshield then pay for the shield yourself since the discount will disappear for 4 years. Look around for windshield servicers. Their prices vary greatly. Everything from no deductible to full deductible for the same service.

Would anyone have anything to update this thread with? I just noticed a very tiny chip in my windscreen (just picked up the damn car from the dealer last Wednesday!).
I can't remember if it was there or not when I picked up the car.
Anyway... trying to figure out if it is worth getting fixed since some people say it remains noticeable after its fixed.

Give these guys a shout for pricing - a friend had his windshield replaced there for half of what Apple Auto Glass was charging:
