Annual property tax is calculated from millage rates and assessed value. Sounds like you're looking for a municipality with that correct combination? Bottom line, you can live anywhere you want as long as you buy a less expensive home in that particular market.
You haven't specified a region? Are we talking Cape Breton Island, Winnipeg, or Port Alberni?

which area has the cheapest land tax?
we are looking to buy a house but want to save money on property tax(beside the other saving), as our income is not alot and only can pay up to 2000$ plus the tax.
we know that in some areas the land tax is over $5000 a year , that over $400 a month, and there really not much info about these stuffs out there.
Which area do you live and how much is the property tax?

If you can't afford property taxes, you can't afford a mortgage.

look for cheaper property taxes, usually that means higher purchase price of the house and higher interest towards your house if you decide to sell one day ...
oshawa pickering have one of the highest property taxes and house prices are dirt cheap there

Toronto has low percentage property tax rate, but houses there currently overpriced.
compare
Toronto: 0.7929218%
Oshawa: 1.704499%
Torontonians should stop whining about their taxes.

Does anyone know how property tax is calculated?
real life scenario: 3 houses, currently paying about $6000, $9000 and $10000/year, same postal code, but the house paying $6000 is the largest sq ft. wise of the three. property tax has been increasing each year for the $9000 and $10000 houses but not the $6000 house. $10000 house does have the largest piece of land out of the three, but $6000 house has more land than $9000 house. How does this work? Just curious.

I thought price depended on area & not size of house?...at least it seems that way here in Hamilton. right now we pay just under $2,000- But there are areas where it is MUCH lower. You didnt say what area u are looking at.
