is the HP Viviera (sp?) ink actually special?
is there a large difference between each manufactures ink?
does ink go bad if it sits in a cartridge for a few years?

I have a Brother HL1230 that prints dirty prints.........I think it is the drum kit. Anyway of cleaning the drum kit so that prints come out without toner or shades ?
The toner ran out years ago, any place to get cheap toner and if needed a drum kit ?
Or should the unit be tossed? It has been used for about a year long time ago and is sitting gathering dust.

Actually they dont even let us know info like that
Each OEM has a few different toner type. and some times even with different part number. the product is 100% the same
such as
Brother TN200 = TN 5000
Some Canon Toner Cartridges are exactly the same as some HP Cartridges and the price different is huge.
there are Compatable cartridges that we can get but it is best to use original since you get more prints and there are less defective_______________

1)Yes we are HP authorized, and we have reps come in to teach us all those info. the true-to-live vibrant color is actually special.
HP is one company that does actually spend millions on research to stay ahead of the game.
2)Yes. each manufacturer does their own special ink/toner. for bigger company like Canon, HP, and Xerox actually have very very special Toners that they make to work with the drum inside the cartridges. and as for ink. they make a special ink that works best with the print heads and the machine inself.
3) Ink/Toner doesnt go bad, but keep inmind that Ink does dry up. Toner will not dry up, or go bad if you keep it in a cool place. not to metion that Original Cartridges has life time warranty from us company (not sure about other companys policy)_______________

The Toner you should be using is TN 430 = 3000 Pages or the TN 460 = 6000 Pages.
TN430 - Business Depot = $90 our price $56.75 Both Original
TN460 - Business Depot = $117 our price $75.50 Both Original
it sounds like the Drum is gone, and there is no way you can clean it since the life of the drum is finished. its actually not getting dirty, its just not charging any more so its picking up toner where its not suppose to.
the Drum Cartridges that you need is a DR400 Drum.
Staples sells it for something like $200
we sell them for around $136.50 Original Brother Product
so in order for your machine to work like new again it would cost you around $180 for the next 3000 pages or $210 for the next 6000 Pages.
The drum would work for around 20,000 Pages
Thats why I never recommend any of my customers to buy a Brother._______________

damn thanks for the thorough answer...........I knew that thing was a piece of junk. I went out and bought a Samsung multi-function (SF-565P) and the thing works perfectly.
How much for toner for the Samsung? Any discounts if I bring in empty original toner cartridges?

Its hard to just give you an answer to that question about Quality of refills....
if I would have to give you an answer to that question. the answer would be, it depends who does it. For ink jet cartridges. if the sealed is screwed up or the ink they use sucked. then you just got yourself a lemon.
for Toner Cartridges. there are 2 versions
Bottle toners without a drum cartridge attached - those are easy since you just fill out the damn bottle with toners, the quality of those will depend on if they put the right toner in there. (different machine have a different temp to melt the toner. if they put in the right toner then you should have no problems using those refills) if they put in the wrong toner. some times you will smell burning, or if the melt temp is higher then what the machine gives. excess toner dust (from the toners that didnt melt) will be on the page.
Toner Cartridges - with drum inside the cartridges (for example all HP Printer Cartridges). Those are the tracky stuff. Since you cant just drill a hole in those and put toner in there and expect them to work. you will have to put a new drum in there, a new computer chip (they have now learn to shut the toner out when the toner is empty and kill the cartridge with the chip), and the hardest part is, you cant just take out a few screws to open the cartridge up. there are no screws. its all molded together. so you will actually have to cut everything up and glue everything back together. thats why there is such a high defective rate on those referbish cartridges. There is only 2 company that I will trust with those referbish cartridges._______________
