For those who have been... Is it better to go Mon-fri, or over the weekend? Wife and I are planning 5 days in NYC over the summer. Hotels, Broadway shows, major tourist attractions... Cheaper/easier to get during the week, or is the difference negligible?

Just show up well ahead of your show. We went to the Southport Location once as we were staying quite close, in the financial district. It was a short walk from our hotel. However, if you are staying in Mid-town, I don't think the trip down just for tickets is worth it.
However, keep in mind that the South Street seaport opens at 11:00 am instead of 3:00 pm for the midtown location. So if you plan your day as such, you can be there at opening and get your tickets done early. There is a crowd at both places, but the lines move fairly briskly. At opening, you won't have to wait more than 5-10 minutes.
However, there are different rules for matinée shows. Check the TKTS website._______________

My wife & I went from M-F last year in mid-August. The main reason for going during the week was because going for those 4 nights was about half the price of going for just 2 nights over the weekend. (hotel + flight from Pearson) I assume it was less busy then the weekend, because during the week, you're only surrounded by crowds of tourists and most people that live there are either at work or school.

I agree with that -- if vacation days are a non-issue, it's better to go during the week. The most expensive hotel nights are Fri and Sat. The cheapest are Sun and Mon. So if you can head down on a Sunday morning, that's your best bet. Plus, flights from Toronto to NYC are pretty cheap early in the day on Sundays.
Just keep in mind that if you're wanting to see loads of Broadway shows, most of them are dark on Mondays.

Perfect! I was going to ask a similar question.
I'm planning on going to NYC sometime Jun-Aug. Fairly flex with time. Thinking 4-5 days with some shopping, relaxing in central park and seeing statue of liberty which I missed last time I was there 2 years ago. Heading down with wife, 3 kid (1 yr, 3 yr and 5 yr old) and mother in law. Last time stayed at Holiday Inn by Central park and was perfect location. Got 2 double beds room on priceline.
Anyhow, this time will need 2 rooms or a suite at least of some sort. Fairly flex with where we stay but it was nice to walk to Central park in 7 min with the kids last time.
So I'm looking for suggestion of a time frame to go what may be cheaper for rooms. I may fly or drive down but with parking rates, not sure if driving is smart idea. I did the double deckers last time around NYC and kids loved it. It was nice I thought personally.
Any suggestions? Thanks. So I guess for cheap days during week I should look at Sun-Friday?

Sorry it's off topic but was wondering how you got this b.c. I think they only guarantee double occupancy which could mean 2 doubles or one king
Have you ever thought about/considered renting a private residence intead of hotels?

You'll want a 2br suite. Try the Salisbury -- one of the few hotels with 2 br suites, and has the proximity to Central Park that you want. Summer is still high tourist season so don't expect crazy deals. If you drive, realize that parking is a small fortune!

subway
So if I understand correctly, you can get a 7 days unlimited metrocard which is good for all subway lines for $29/person?

Try this
http://www.broadwaybox.com/
Not the absolute best discounts but it eliminates a lot of risk of waiting in line and getting the tickets you really want. I got Jersey Boys and Memphis through them 2 years ago.
Also, Travelzoo had something in its top 20 deals this week.
