This is nice. I'm on the $9.99 unlimited deal with ngroups but I used astraweb for about a year and really liked them. I'm tempted to switch back for the greater retention.

Currently still cruising on the $9.99 Octoberfest deal from Ngroups. What I like about NGroups is you get SSL encryption for free. Nice to know in these days of lawsuits. Bigger retention would be nice but I will stick with NGroups for now.
EDIT: I see Astraweb finally has SSL! Might be time to jump ship - thanks OP.
EDIT 2: Just a note to people, if you are like me and on Rogers Express with the 60 GB cap, it is worth considering instead going with the $25 / 110 GB plan. Considering you can't download more than around 50 GB / month without blowing your Rogers cap anyway, this plan works out to be a cheaper option - and you are allowed 50 connections instead of only 20.Last edited by brunes; Aug 19th, 2008 at 06:20 AM.

I've used Astraweb before and the completion of files were good or comparable to Giganews, Newshosting, UsenetServer, etc. which I've used before. I never took note of the speeds but my current provider (Newshosting) seems to be hitting a barrier at 800kbs or so.
Anyone hitting 1.2Mbit on Roger's Extreme?

That happened to me also. Mind you I was able to download some things, and when I had requested support they were no help at all. They said because I was able to connect at one point, then it had to have been my fault I wasn't able to connect all the time.
Pretty stupid explanation if you ask me, considering I wasn't the only one having problems at the time.

I'm sticking with Giganews...they've always been good to me.
Anyways, I've got 5 invites to newzbin, send me your email and I'll send you one.
EDIT: Please note that due to people flooding my inbox with demands for the invites, one threatening to call the police on me for piracy if I didn't send him one, another calling me a jerk for not sending him one, I'm not giving out the invites. The OP got one, and that's it.

I'm on Shaw Extreme and I usually max out around 1.3MB/s
Same excuse they gave me. I use to do their $3/3 day thing and download like crazy during that time. I'd use all the connections and the max speed I'd usually get would be around 700kb/s. During my 2nd + 3rd time with them I kept getting disconnected so I emailed them and they gave me some generic reply and a "thank you for your continued support as usenetserver improves to be the best"

I've been with Astraweb for 3 or 4 years and they've been great. I don't remember any downtime at all, some slow-downs maybe which were short lived and explained in detail.
I'm no power-user though so speed is fine for me, others may consider it a bit slow. FWIW, there is a "traceroute" link on the front page.
