was a usenetserver customer, hated the service switched to astraweb a while ago and still am happy with it.
Go with Astraweb.

astraweb vs usenetserver
I see they are both comparable (rates, retention...)
All I can find on the web is that the latter did(?) have some reliability issues years ago. I'm on newshosting now and looking for an alternative (one of the two listed above).
Other than what's listed below, is there a difference?
I've seen a few other threads, but really don't care about pple saying what they dl, noobs asking what it is, reference to bit torrent, dl speeds vs # of threads used, retention, getting capped for bandwidth on rogers cable...
Looking for long time user opinions only.

Switched from Newshosting to Astraweb about a year ago and have NEVER regretted my decision. No downtime, no issues....Go with Astra.

I was a UNS subscriber a year back, constant retention problems, downtime, and no customer support. I've heard they've improved, but I've been using astraweb since then and won't go back.

I was also a UNS customer prior to becoming an Astraweb customer. There were a few reasons why I left UNS.
1) Downtime - at the time I was a customer they were always down it seemed, I didn't use usenet all that often at that time, but for the rare time I would want something, I couldn't because they were down.
2) Money - they were charging some $15 a month while Astraweb was asking for $11 a month

Astraweb has been rock solid for me and even though it sounds like UNS has gotten their stuff together, it's too little too late now unless they give me an offer that absolutely blows me away.

Just as a suggestion, have you checked to see what type of newshosting your ISP has? I can generally get anything I need that is fairly new from my ISP news servers.

speeds are horrible, retention is maybe a week with isp. Definitely worth paying the (promo rate) of $11/month.
I think I'll be going with astraweb in two weeks when my newshosting (monthly) account expires.
Thanks for the info. I was leading towards that way, but just wanted confirmation.

I've been using astraweb for over 7 years. I use to go monthly, and the speeds were ok. I switched to pay as you go, the speed is pretty good.
