This card has $180 discount on it. I'm replacing my old old 9600 card. Should I go for it or get 970 from Newegg?

If you spend $40 more you can get a gigabyte 780ti from Futureshop for after pricematch with ncix.
Approx $450 after tax

Google for "GTX 970 review". Every review shows the 970 outperforming a 780 in nearly every single benchmark at ever resolution, while using less power and having more RAM.

Everyone is just trying to dump the garbage 700 series that were ALWAYS overpriced for their entire lifecycle, even before/after mining.

The 970 oc will run as well as the 780 ti in some application.
so it would beat the 780 .

Gigabyte, I only like their MB which you can put together a Hackintosh. I'm having a good luck on Asus MB and video card so far. Want to stay with Asus. It looks like FS doesn't have it.

What about this one?

If you're moving up from a 9600, what does the rest of your system look like? When that card was introduced Core 2 was still king of the CPU world, and you might be looking at a whole system upgrade if you want to see the full performance of a 780 Ti.

780Ti is a overkill in my system. I have a Intel 3770K with 16GB ram. Now it's time to upgrade the video card a bit. 780 is the card that I'm looking at. Thx for chipping in, DWinSask.

Why got a 780? The 970 is faster, overclocks better, runs cooler, has more vram, and supports DX12.

Isn't the 970 basically the same price but faster and better in every way? No reason to buy a 780 unless it's a smoking hot deal.

cms most ppl here hail the birth of 970/980. i appreciate that too however i rarely buy new IT products at the 1st place for its stability concern.
no matter how rigourous they test their design in lab, there's more or less issue when it goes to market. i would say a few mth after the launch will not only give you more stable run but will also save you some $.
on the other hand, how much does the power effective 970 will save your $? $10/yr for typical home use? how long will be the lifecycle of your card?
dont blame me as an enviromentalist, this is rfd for $ savers.
To such a point, i would say 780/ti are still nice pick.

Also if price/performance are on par with AMD, I always avoid nVidia for its notorious overpricing strategy

I think the 780 is basically worse in every way compared to the 970 though, pretty much no reason to get a 780 unless it drops even more. Maybe at $300 it would be enticing. Can't call the 780 a good choice if it's just worse overall for the same money.

I agree that I'd rather give money to AMD/ATI, but I don't know if they really can compete with the 970 at this point, if that's the performance level you're looking at. If the 290X came down to the price of the 970 we'd have a good competition again.

How does the 780 compare in other things besides games such as hardware accelerated programs?
