I think it would be even better, shows a strong work ethic and has that "hmmm interesting" appeal.

I'm taking a couple of accounting courses through them. I highly recommend it. For me, I need a couple of prerequisite courses before taking the CMA's accelerated program. I found their courses very well organized. You're not on your own because there're course discussion forums and TAs to guide you if you have any questions. Their call centre is also very quick in resolving problems or questions you may have.
Ultimately, it takes a lot of self-motivation to sucessfully complete these courses.
Bare in mind too that CMA recognizes these courses....so on this fact alone, the university can't be that bad.
I've been in the workforce for over 5 years so I prefer this method of studying than attending at a university to do a couple of courses - been there done that. Just my 2 cents._______________

this is the first time i have heard of this university and its pretty interesting how everything is online via DE
but then i start wondering if this unversity if reputable? and do companies recongize it as legit as lets say UofT degrees? considering everything is online.
i was looking at the MBA program and it does sound interesting b/c i could save A LOT of money by staying at home and doing the courses online b/c the costs of this program is around 42000, but again i start thinking if this is really going to be a MBA degree or some cheap one that no one looks at??

its an accredited university, like uft, waterloo, this courses taken there are as good as courses taken at another university. you have to keep in mind that it might be hard to get a job or even get an interview when compared to the universities like uft or waterloo due the reputation. but if you have previous work experience it might help you find a good job.

it's good if you need some course requirements since it's basically as someone mentioned already.. you just pay for course and they expect you to learn it by yourself...so good for upgrading but i would double think it if you were to get a degree.
I don't especially like the learning method and i find that i don't learn anything.. basically just memorize everything.

I plan to earn my entire degree studying at Athabasca (I've completed six courses so far.) You have to be committed if you're going to do more than a couple courses.
The thing I really love about it is that I don't have to spend time/money on getting to a university - the closest is at least an hour by car and I'm settled where I live.

Well, thanks for showing us you don't know what you are talking about.
It's a fully accredited university, which means it is held to the same standards as any brick and mortar institution in Canada. The only difference is you don't actually sit in a lecture, but the curriculum and educational standards it needs to meet are the same. To help further it's credibility, it was established by the government of Alberta in 1970.
A degree from there is worth the same as a degree from any other school (aside from a few instances). If you like saving money, not having to deal with bored and rude students and prefer to work at your own pace, this is the school for you.

I'm currently a student at U of C in my last semester, and I've taken quite a few classes from athabasca (Econ 475, Fren 383, Geog 200). The U of C recognizes this instutition and has given me credit towards my degree for the courses I have taken. I would recommend this school for 'option type' classes - but it might be hard to do a whole degree from them for several reasons.
For example, I find that for math intensive classes - like my econ course, was taught without much direction. It's pretty hard to learn somethings without actual instruction. There was a lot of complicated calculus in this couse, and there was only a 'tutor' that you can e-mail if you need help- but there is only so much they can help you via e-mail. This might be something you might want to keep in mind. Some classes will be quite a bit harder than others.
Also, to take courses at this school, you also have to be very self-motivated to finish your work on time. It might be difficult to do a whole degree online, since you might not know a lot about some of the subjects you are learning, and textbook means of learning might not be sufficent for you. Sometimes actual instruction really helps. Also---Alot of the courses you will have to do won't be online based (since most undergrad courses still aren't) and this is a pain in the ***** . So maybe you should look at combining athabasca courses with a local community college/university night classes to ensure your sucess!
