Australian Ad banned in Canada
Big Brother strikes again:
More freedoms gone...appearently Canada won't allow an Australian Tourism ad because it uses words we here in Canada shouldn't hear:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060322/...ralia_ads_dc_1
the link to see the ad is at the bottom of the article.
Unbelievable!

Just another case of the population being told what is decent and indecent.

I don't find nothing wrong with the ad at all. I wouldn't mind seeing it on TV.
Yeah, CRTC does suck

The CBC airs programs with swear words all the time. I remember Kids in the Hall, Degrassi jr high, documentaries, all with swearing. Hell is not a swear word, come on!

hmmm...
I don't think the ban has anything to do with the content (language/humour) of the ad - but rather the implication of the beer being consumed during the ad. I'm pretty sure our regulations don't allow for anyone to actually consume alcohol in a commercial (next time you watch a beer commercial - take note of the fact that nobody actually DRINKS the beer... )

if you RTFA you'll see that it had nothing to do with the language, just the implied consumption of alcohol which has been around for ages. You'll notice in all canadian beer commercials you'll never see anyone drinking it, it's always full glasses.

Mar 22nd, 2006 08:13 PM #14And it worked. When I was underage, we never drank beer, we would just fill glasses with it and sit around and talk. It wasn't until someone evil (possibly Australian) showed us that we should be actually be drinking it that we started drinking ourselves into a stupor. God bless the CRTC for protecting me.
