Auto Parellel parking in LS460
I saw this somewhere from a car forum, don't remember if it was from here. Did a search and didn't find anything so hope this isn't a repost.
LS460

Also seen in a BMW 3 series hatch?

Cool stuff. Various cameras built right into the car located at various locations sends constant signals which in turn are used to calculate distances and angles.

Just to add, it is actually radar based. Very similar to how adaptive cruise control works.

Isn't it kind of interesting all these car companies come out with this auto parking feature at around the same time?
BMW, Lexus, Mercedes

Not really.. considering the system is probably developed by Bosch or other 3rd party manufacturer.. all they have to do is repackage it into the respective brand.

Car fails to parallel park. Scratches bumper on other car. Owner claims with car builder. Builder refers to insurance. Other owner claims insurance... who's at fault, ultimately? Meh.

The JDM Prius has had the auto-park feature since 2004.

If you can't parallel park you shouldn't be driving...

Exactly. People complain that a whole of people lack the proper driving skills these days. It's exactly these kind of gadgets that make people lazier, and less aware of the "driving" part. They may as well hire a chauffeur

this threads needs some big clarifications
Toyota first came out with auto park in 2004
with its japanese prius as said by otaque
the Mercedes's new auto park feature isnt really auto park
it just tells the driver when the turn the wheel
but ultimately its the driver that still has to turn the wheel
in LS460, u only need to keep ur foot on the brake and u can enjoy a cup of tea while the car parks itself without touching the steering wheel
so in this case, its the german auto manufacturers copying Toyota/Lexus

Yup BMW came out with something where the car would auto park into a garage (basically drive straight in, but would control the speed and stop when it needs to, driver doesn't even have to be in the car), but the parallel parking thing was first developed by Toyota/Lexus.

Not to be off topic, but is it just me or does a southern drawl in the video just ruin the whole experience of being in a Lexus? It always sounds so...ignorant.

i tend to agree, but then again the luxury cars that have these sort of features probably won't be driven by new drivers ... but rather by experienced ones
