Average price of photo session?

Hey guys and gals,

My girlfriend and I are meeting up with a photographer this weekend to snap some pics to use as gifts this holiday season for like the grandparents and aunts/uncles. Was just curious the going rate as I have never had to look into this. He doesn't work for a big company but for himself.

Thanks

1-2 hrs 300-400 is probably the average going.

There is really isn't a going rate.
Every pro has their own price point and fee schedule.

It could range from $75-$300 just for sitting fee + $$ for number of touched-up photos and prints.

It could be a flat rate for everything included (sitting fee, touchups, prints)
You may negotiate for a disc of the touched-up photos for yourself
The photog may offer to design and print your cards/pics for you as well...

This holiday season I've been charging $150-200 for a 1-2 hour shoot (*sitting fee)

Wall-Mart -$30

Studios:

Low $50-150

Mid $ 200-350

High $400-800

Specialized $800-3000
What does $3000 buy you? Pro MUA, all day shoot, pro-PPing?

Agree on the pricing level there.

I'm in the mid to high range for example. I know two other photogs who charge $40-$60 hour sitting fees. Prints and edits are extra.

1-2 hour photoshoot plus some prints. No DVD. That's it

The prices are combined.
You can charge $50 for a sitting fee and include watermarked 400pix images. Prints can start at much as $300 for 8x10. It all depends on the business model.

Sounds like I should get into the commercial photo business.

If it's local or a friend, and have only minimal work(IE sharpening, saturation, levels) I would certainly charge on the low end. If I had to drive more than 10-15 minutes and had no excuse to be there I'd charge $30 an hour for driving.

Since the work would be "throw away" work, I'd give them the digital negatives.
