I have a movie in an avi format and a sub-title file in srt format.... how do i load the srt file to view the subs? Is there any specific player i should be using?
Thanks!

You need to have the right codec installed (VobSub I think) and have the .SRT and .AVI files in the same folder (with exact same name aside from the file extension).
If that doesn't work, you might want to look into VobSub's settings, as you can also specify a folder where you save the .SRT files. Put the .SRT file in that specified folder and upon load, Windows Media Player should look for the existence of a .SRT file in that folder.

just get gom player, it will auto detect it when you play the movie, as long the srt file has the same name as the movie in the same folder.
if not, you can always select the subs you want.

VobSub came with my K-Lite codec
which runs when you have the SRT in the same name
A.avi
A.srt
will work. Or you can manually load the subtitle in Media Player Classic
I guess VLC works too

Which DivX player?
My Phillips DVP642 can read it if you put A.avi and A.srt on the same dvd/directory
You have to select the .SRT first, "subtitle" button, then select the .AVI to play
