The FS407 are pre-Andrew Jones. Andrew Jones only designed the Debut and the Uni-Fi lines (so far).
I heard some new ones with the ribbon tweeter it is sonically similar. Stuck to PMC.

ELAC UB5 speakers https://imgur.com/gallery/Ph0dg

Just got them yesterday and installed today. Great sound. Very clear and precise I'd say. I'm pleased for now. I need to angle them toward me since the highs are pretty directional and then I'll be set. Btw my cheap Insignia NS-STR514 has no probs running them very loudly.
Tried it with this
and this

way louder than I would dare in my condo and it was easy handled.

Overall great buy

can I use these with my computer? better than audioengines?
you need an amp (and the better the amp, the better they will sound)

Will my O2+ODAC power these fine?
No - that is a DAC and headphone amp. It can possibly be used a source. You will need a speaker amp to power these.

It wasn't that long ago that I was asking the same questions. I was a headphone guy first. As far as I can tell, the odac will only work as a dac if you have the RCA out option. Otherwise you want an amp/dac combo. You can get something decent to drive the elacs with dac/amp combos for about 400. The NAD D3020 is good but around 500. Yamaha has a few that you might be able to find for cheap. Or even the sonos connect:amp if you have a sonos set up at home. Though the bluesound setup is nice.

Reading some responses here reminds me of reading a article about Mark Levinson power amps that were used to arc weld a couple pieces of metal together in an audio magazine from the 80's I believe. Man I was hooked on that shite back then lol. Liked Carver and Hafler myself. Good times.

for those people looking for a small amp that can drive these speakers for a desktop system, I heartily recommend the NAD D3020. It's $399 right now during Boxing Week at BBB. The cheapest I've ever seen (it has never been lower than $500 that I know of.....and that's what I paid)
