I recommend you use teracopy when you're copying files around. It has option to check CRC so you know your files are in tact!

No. In modern hard drives, all that is done is the look up table gets modified and no actual moving of bites is done and therefore 1) It's super fast 2) not much writing is done to the hard drive.

hard drive crashed. got a new 3TB drive. recovered a whole bunch of raw image files (total 2 terabytes). Those files need to be extracted to the same hard drive.
