Are bank branches in Waterloo issuing chip cards?
I was wondering if anyone knows if in Waterloo bank branches are issuing the chip debit cards as replacement cards?
I want to swap my CIBC card to a chip one and no branches in Toronto have them yet, only bank that has them is BMO. Does anyone know if I just walk into a CIBC branch in Waterloo say I "lost" the card they will give me one with the chip?

I actually want to know this too for TD. Are TD branches in K-W giving out chip debit cards?

I've had Scotiabank chip card for well over a year. I believe K-W started as the trial area quite a while back now.
I do believe you must be a resident in K-W though.

Both my Scotiabank VISA and BMO MasterCard cards were replaced with chip cards in early September (I live in the GTA). My seldom-used TD VISA has yet to be replaced.
What I think tng11 and myself want to know (and primarily asking people who live in K-W) is if we were to drive to a bank branch (CIBC for them, TD for me) in Kitchener/Waterloo and ask for a replacement debit card, will they give us a chip debit card, as branches for both banks in the GTA currently do not have them yet.
For people that live in K-W, were your chip debit cards mailed to you, or did you have to get them in-branch?

I live in Waterloo
My TD Debit and VISA chip cards were both mailed to me
and a LOT of retailers are accepting chip cards too (as in you cannot swipe anymore if they have a chip reader)

Scotia called me the other day, they want me to visit the branch to obtain a new Scotiacard. They said that mine has not been compromised (I only used it once since I got i a few months ago, and that was at a Scotia ABM). They said that it's to ensure "compatibility with advancing technology", hence why I think I'm getting a chip card soon.

Yes that's correct, KW was a test area for the chip cards.

Regardless, depending on the rollout, you'll eventually get one in the mail anyway. Each bank has it's own timeline too, for example TD isn't issuing Chip Debit cards yet. I think they've started issuing Chip VISA cards though.
It's kind of silly though since most places don't know how to process chip cards it still falls back on Magnetic. Therefore technically it's still just as insecure until they can start enforcing chip only transactions. I've found many terminals aren't setup for Chip Debit. The one we have at work (Moneris) will accept Chip+PIN Credit Cards but if you try inserting a Chip Debit it complains and says "APPLICATION NOT SUPPORTED" and you have to swipe it instead.
Of course in Kitchener/Waterloo everything should be working (Debit/Credit) and they should know how to process everything chip as that was the pilot area.
