Barbados - restaurant recomendations
Hi,
My wife and I are heading to barbados in a couple of weeks. I know that barbados itself is expensive and we are ok with this, we will go out for a couple more expensive meals, but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for some other other meals (lunch and supper) maybe not as expensive. We are staying on the south coast but can aren't afraid to travel a bit.
Regards,
Tyler

Tyler,
I would suggest you look through this boards http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=124 or post on it. They are pretty helpful with providing suggestions.
good luck!

Not so much recommendations for 'inexpensive' restaurants, but here are a few of the nicer ones.
The Restaurant @ SouthSea (if anything, you need to try this restaurant, my fave of all the restaurants on the South Coast)
Aqcua
Lobsters Alive (if you like lobsters, then its a must)
Those 3 places I really like on on the south coast. I didn't enjoy Champers as much, although they have great reviews....I felt for the price, the food and service at The Restaurant@South Sea was much much better.
Also, Brown Sugar was a letdown as well....
If you are there on a friday or Saturday, then check out Oistens fish market for some cheap grubs. Uncle George Fish stall is great for their dolphin, white and fly fishes. Plus the local entertainments at the center of the market is a nice diversion.
For lunch, don't be afraid to try those fish stalls along the streets...the fried fly fish, mahi mahi or white fish sandwich is delicious and cheap. Usually they are 5-8 BDS depending on what fish you choose.
We were staying at the Hilton, and there was a fish stall just up the street from the Hilton, we would hit the stall for lunch pretty much 3-4 times the week we were there....

I spent 5 weeks in Barbados in the mid 80's. I lived off of flying fish and ham sandwiches from the rum shacks. They were $2BDS then or about $1.25CDN.

Personally I enjoyed Champers, but to each his own. +1 on the Oisten's fish market on Fridays. You can also try St. Lawrence gap during happy hour- many places have discounts on drinks and finger food. Don't forgot to try some roti's as well, very cheap and very filling.
A tip for getting around if you aren't going to bus it everywhere- find a taxi driver you like and ask for their business card. You can then call them anytime you need to get somewhere, and because you're giving them repeat business, you can negotiate very good rates.

It should be noted that Barbados is the first island nation to have a zagat guide.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Can you only eat at the oistins fish market on friday and saturday night, or can you eat their at lunch or other nights too (stall type meals).

Some stalls are open during the week at dinner and lunch times... but for the best experience you go on friday night...

We were there just a few weeks ago,and another one for Oistins fish fry, just South of Oistens fish fry there is also a little Restaurant called Obscewers surfer Cafe, that one is pretty good as well, If you are Lucky you can get a seat right on the Ocean. Or if you want to eat cheap and want real good foodtry one of those meals that locals cook and sell out of the back of their van . Then there is also the Chefette this is a fast food joint.
Have fun, you'd love it there,I so want to go back again.

I was just at Barbados in February....Was there same time last year as well.
The Cliff is generally known as the best restaurant on the island, followed by The Tides. They are both located at the West Coast around 20-30 minutes from Bridgetown.
