Oct 19th, 2004 11:46 PM #50He almost got it. At least, he fooled the 1st base Umpire.

what the hell was that first base umpire even thinking? AROD didn't even touch the bag, and the ump called him safe.....lol.....even the commentators spotted that one....
haha...can't blame AROD for trying...he was going to be out either way =) but if he did get the call....oh I think he'd look pretty stupid in the boston papers the next day....which i'm sure he still will be tommorrow...._______________

I now know why everyone calls him Gay Rod. That move was incredibly stupid.
How likely is it that someone will have the ball SLIP out or CRAWL out of a hand/glove? That was absolutely ridiculous... I'm very thankful for the great umping performed last night.

Oct 20th, 2004 05:01 PM #54It is very possible. What ARod should do was to do an Albert Belle and ran into Arroyo with 2 elbows up. That is to run him over. That is legal. If his body (instead of his hand) hit the glove and the ball came out, he won the case.

By the way, I think there is a possible reason why the First Base Umpire said ARod was safe even though he did not touch the first base. The First Baseman was blocking the base without a ball. In other words, it is kind of obstruction, the umpire can grant him the base even though he did not touch it.Last edited by gman; Oct 20th, 2004 at 05:05 PM.
