[Best Buy] Acer i7-3632QM 8GB 750G @ $680 => PM [FS] @ $750 - Further Discount

Respectable.

I strongly suspect the RAM speed reading is a typo, BB has repeatedly misrecorded these details.

Fastest consumer CPU below $1200, swap in an SSD for maximum performance.

Almost hot, pretty warm.

P.S. Futureshop also carries it.

EDIT: RAM clock confirmed 1600Mhz, not 1066Mhz as quoted.

Thought about posting this but acer support is pretty terrible when you need it so decided not to.

Hmmm. I'm trying to squeeze every bit of life from my 5 year-old laptop. This is very tempting, especially since my cpu and gpu can't handle jack. I will fight the urge, but thanks for posting. Maybe next year.

Also no graphics card so the quad core is a bit of a waste.

It's a great VM workhorse. Slide in a new SSD and it'll monster multiple VMs.

Very good deal for those who needs a portable desktop replacement now. With HD4000 and TN panel, the idle battery life should improve. The notebook is only 1-inch thick.

the review doesn't say anything about sound quality.

I had never been a fan of Acer, but I bought one of those crazy clearance deals from The Source. The laptop had a busted usb port and I had no issue getting the problem fixed via their support. They covered all the expenses to have the laptop shipped to them, and the repaired unit came back very fast. The laptop has worked great for almost 2 years now.

Acer quality and service has proven decent.

A few points on this unit.
- It's thin
- It uses Dolby Advanced Audio v4 (my new lappie uses v2)
- Gigabit Ethernet is standard

Anecdote ahead: Unlike HP, my history across Acer units is good. Units from 2009 are still chugging away just fine, one has been repurposed for a business setting and runs significantly faster with a Kingston SSD.

I just brought this Acer home:
  • Hard disk is a WD7500BPVT
  • RAM is a pair of Hyundai HMT451S6MFR8C-PB, which is PC3-12800 CL11
  • Its CPU supports 32GB RAM, but Crucial.com says that its maximum RAM is 8GB PC3-12800
  • No mSATA port
  • WLAN adapter is the Atheros AR5BWB222
  • LAN adapter is Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet
  • Chipset is Intel(R) 7 Series/C216
  • Battery is 47045mWh
I hope this is useful to someone.

You've confirmed what I've suspected, the RAM is DDR3 1600mhz, not 1066mhz as quoted.

This system is pretty close to holday season pricing without the YMMV issue.
