IIRC, the iPad needs 2 amps. Phones, iPad Mini, and some 7" tablets will be alright with 1 amp.

Sorry to get a bit off topic but the chargers that came with my ipad mini and iPhone 5 appear to be identical, is one outputting more than the other? If so I might be ruining them!

you won't ruin anything... it'll just take longer to charge if you use the weaker charger for something that needs more juice. if you plug an old ipod into a 2A charger, it's not going to blow up.

+ 1 to this, bought two. Very solidly built, excellent value if you can find it in stock somewhere. If you notice a high stock level, be prepared for a hunt in store as they may be placed in some obscure location or not out on the floor.
