Too bad it is a DX lens
If you have a DX camera this lens is amazing. I've got it on mine and I love it!

I bought one. I figure 35mm will be a lot more useful then 50mm.

On a DX camera, it's equivalent to a 50mm - kind of deceiving actually as it should be labelled 50 instead of 35

Is the 18-55mm and 55-200 kit lenses also labelled this way? I thought no. I guess it just requires you know your product well when buying accessories. I actually, wasn't aware of this detail until i looked into single focal distance lenses since it seems less important on zoom lenses.

Here's a write up on the lens.

I just bought the Nikon D600.

I was looking for a prime lens for portrait. Should I go with this 35mm or the 50mm?

Thanks for the advice

Sorry, I should have said a 35mm will be more useful then my 50mm. I find when I try to shoot my 50mm, I find its not wide enough for the kind of shots I want to take.

Buy a non-DX lens like the 50mm. You'll be in crop mode on your D600 if you go with this.
