not a great deal IMO, you can get the regular DVD about the same price with loaded feature and the picture quility is not that much of an upgrade

BB: Superbit DVD $6.99
Let's not get into a debate about HD-DVD v. Blu-Ray v. DVD.
For those who are still buying DVD, BB is having a sale on some titles on the Sony/Columbia Pictures Superbit format that is now dead with Blu-Ray in motion. For a format that was selling at $30+, this is quite wicked especially if you only have a really good upconverting player like an Oppo and have yet to enter the HD/Blu-Ray world. I visited the two locations in Scarborough and both had the same titles:
The One
Seven Days in Tibet
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Vertical Limit
MIB - 1 & 2
The Guns of Navarone
From Here to Eternity
The Missing
Dracula
Anaconda
Air Force One
The Big Hit
The Quick and the Dead
Gattaca
XXX
Heavy Metal

There has always been debate about the merits of Superbit. At the original pricing, totally not worth it. For $7, these movies are actually less than the regular DVD versions.
However, I am witnessing some clear improvements:
1. DTS audio track - I wish Black Hawk Down was available!!!
2. the PQ does improve when the upconvert is processed with a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray/high end upconverting player (as mentioned, like Oppo)

I completely disagree. Most Superbits look far clearer than regular version dvd's. Less compression = less image pixelation / macro blocking = better overall image. In comparing some of the SB discs I have to the regular version. I've found on a regular disc that some movies only get 70% of the disc space.

I also think that most of the Superbits are superior IF you have good DVD player!
it's less compression so better PQ in general

it's semi-hot, Futureshop had the Superbit DVD sale long time ago and it was something like 2/$10...

when i had a 27" tv, i couldnt see any difference, but now on a 42", the upconverted picture is much cleaner.
Ive got MIB1 regular collector ed, superbit, and now a 720p rip.
In each movie, more and more of Tommy Lee Jones wrinkles become visible.
