Looking for a good mid-sized BBQ for Father's Day. Not exactly sure what his requirements are, just something "better" than the old crappy one we already have. Saw one at Costco for $420 that was stainless steel but the brand is "Patio Range" from Quebec, i.e. one of Costco's no-name house brands I assume. Anyway here are some pics, would love to hear some opinions or other suggestions (btw this is probably the max price range I am looking at, give or take). I can't find a proper review on that one, but I have the June08 Consumers Report which they don't publish online unless you are a member.
Top rated and CRbestbuy in the Canada extra section...
Midsized: Charbroil Commercial Series 463268008 $300
Largesized: Charbroil Quantum 463248208 $500, Perfect Flame 720-0522 $500
All at Canadian Lowes
The midsized BlueEmber FG50069-U401 at HomeDepot is also considered a CRbestbuy and rated a bit higher than the Charbroil, but I don't think its cheap for $650.Last edited by joshuaave; Jun 7th, 2008 at 11:11 PM.

Without a doubt the Broil King Signet 90.
Listed at Rona for $499 but on two occasions now in the past month they have had some form of a 15% off deal to apply to it, making it $424.
There is no BBQ in existence better than this at $424.
So if you can, wait it out until the next 15% off deal.

I don't like to flame (no pun), but I really hope you're joking, and not trying to kill J-Wo
There is probably a reason why the BKS90 has gone on sale more than once. It's the first time since 1986 that CR has judged a gas grill NOT Acceptable. The firebox melted in two of the three BKS90's they tested

If you seriously have one of these, make sure it is the new retrofitted model or call warranty and have it done!

i got for $424 from rona
signet 90
awsome bbq i f u want a side burner and the rotiserree is a bonus
id go for a weber but thier a lot more $$. and there cheapo spirit line is made in china and looks like crap.
that issue with flameup was partly to do with the way cr tested it
in any case they have added a baflle to all thier signet and higher models like sovern ect
BTW check out the cr blog here. they are testing it agin now with the baffle installed
http://blogs.consumerreports.org/saf...king-reca.html
this is a great bbq, nothing touches it for the price
check out my prevous posts, i spent weeks researching these broilkings broilmates, diff makes for diff stores ect. some have different parts ect
the broilmate is a watered down broilking
cheaper broilkings use a super 8 burner
broilmate use hburner and cheaper grills too
signet and higher use thier tube burners and high quality grillsLast edited by acidbaby; Jun 21st, 2008 at 07:37 PM.
