FAQ:
1. Q: is 2 dsl lines needed to beat the throttle with this setup.
A: no this solution works with 1 line from TSI or Velcom as well.
just make sureyou select "single link" in the "MultilinkPPP" option
in the router under "basic" then "network"
2. Q: will this combine the speeds of both lines?
A: yes, so if you get 2 5 meg lines and synch at 5 megs each you would get 10 megs down and 1 meg up. this is approx and speeds will vary on line conditions location. so it is reccomended to have both lines speed profiles set to the same speeds.
3. Q: is this hard to do?
A: NO if you can plugin a modem and configure your router. this is the same difficulty.
4. Q: will this reallly beat the throttle?
A: YES you will beat the throttle allowing you full speed up and down during throttling hours.
5. Q: will voip work properly?
A: YES
6. Q: will p2p apps like bittorent download and upload past 30kbps using this solution?
A: YES
7. Q: how fast will my dsl be if i want to switch from cable(or any other technology) to dsl?
A: speed is determined by the distance or wire from the DSLAM or CO to your location where the DSL modem will be. to get an idea of how far you are you can go here and enter your area code and the first 3 digits of your phone number.. click search then click on "Detailed Switch Info" on the right.
this will bring up a map of the location of your CO or DSLAM closest to you that you are connected to.

8. Q: i got my DSL up but i am connecting very slow and/or is unstable. what is the prob?
A: if this line is less then 2 weeks old your line may still be under provisioning. or bell may have screwed up the provision proccess when you ordered your service from tsi or velcom. Call your ISP and have them raise to a stable and the fastest speed profile tat your line can handle.
9. Q: I play ps3/xbox and i also have VOIP. My brother/sister also downloads frequently. i want to use QoS(quality of service) to control how much speed each person on the network can use. how can i do this?
A: Click QoS on the left the put a check mark in enable QoS. and configure at your needs.
if you need more help you can read this tutorial and simple guide to help you.
http://www.decimation.com/markw/2007...ato-qos-setup/
10. Q: Something is not right i think i am doing something wrong. can you help me?
A: Please refer to the hardware configuration setup pages located here
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...=1#post8384218
and go over your setup. ensure you have followed the steps carefully. if you still feel you need additional help feel free to post a question in this thread.

Beat the bell & rogers throttle....all things mlppp!
are you getting slow speeds?
is your p2p downloads capped at 60 down and 30 up?
are you noticing a constant buffering when watching streamed vids?
are you pings very inconsistent or just spiking very high in gaming servers?
do you want the full speed that is advertised when you signed up?
did you want more download and upload speed?
sounds like your a victim of bells internet throttle. here is how to get around it.
welcome to infamouskid's beat the bell throttle thread.
here we will give you the info needed to get around the throttle and if desired add and combine additional dsl lines for more speed using mlppp bonding.
WHAT IS NEEDED?
1. A MODEM(S) IN BRIDGE MODE (more modems = more speed)
modems are now available almost at any computer or online retailer. they range from 10 to 100 dollars. here are few places you can score one.
recommended models and retailers are:
tplink 8810
http://www.cuttingedgecomputers.ca/shopexd.asp?id=3328(noob friendly)
tplink 8816
http://pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?prodID=6620(RECOMMENDED!)
Thomson 516
http://infonec.ca/site/main.php?module=detail&id=350362(advanced user recommended)
2. MLPPP COMPATIBLE ROUTER AND FIRMWARE
with the growing popularity or mlppp there are now optional flavours of mlppp firmware available. beside each name of firmware i list the skill level and knowledge needed to setup and navigate each one.
also the firmware you choose will also dictate the routers you can use. check hardware compatible lists first before making your decision.
TOMATO MLPPP -- the first one of it's kind. the easiest to navigate and understand. the most stable to date out of the 3. SUPER NOOB FRIENDLY! however it lacks a complete hardware support listing. Works with all MLPPP ISP's
firmware download page as of 02-26-2010: http://fixppp.org/downloads/
compatible router lists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato_...atible_Routers and http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Tomato_..._and_revisions
homepage: http://www.fixppp.org
DD-WRT-MLPPP -- the second one to enter. easy to understand. solid support community that is still growing. very good hardware support list. requires a bit more tech knowledge. still in development. Limited support for MLPPP ISP's.
firmware download page as of 02-26-2010: ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSla...3972/broadcom/
compatible router/modem list:http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php...ported_Devices
homepage: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/
OPENWRT-MLPPP -- the latest to enter the fray. require advanced technical knowledge! NOT NOOB FRIENDLY! very very good hardware support and options. works with all MLPPP ISP's (teksavvy, acanac, velcom and caneris)
firmware download as of 02-26-2010: http://www.fw5.net/releases/
compatible router/modem list: http://www.fw5.net/status.php

3. AN MLPPP SUPPORTING ISP.
in the past 2 years our MLPPP ISP's have improved and continue to improve overtime. before dual mlppp line bonding was only capable with 1 ISP in the past. this has changed now. you can now choose from the following listed providers below. but pay attention to the notes beside each provider as they outline how each offers MLPPP and rates their service top to bottom.
www.TEKSAVVY.com - support for single and dual mlppp. static and dyncamic ip options. free newsgroups access with static add on. offers subnet ip blocks. rock solid 24/7 CANADIAN tech support via phone and direct forum on DSLR. offers real POTS telephone service. #1 ranked national isp. #27th ranked fastest growing canadian company. consistent high 90's percentage rating on DSLR. highly recommend!!!
www.ACANAC.com - supports both single and dual mlppp! very cheap. one of the crappiest customer service and tech support staffs i have come across. dynamic ip setup. voip phone provider. improvement plans are in place BUT i would not recommend until further improvements are made to customer support areas.
www.CANERIS.com - supports single and dual mlppp! prices are just right. dynamic ip and static available. customer service is improving. technical support is good via email and dslr forum. decent reviews. no phone offerings. offers ip subnet blocks. would recommend.
www.VELCOM.ca - supports single mlppp. unknown and untested dual mlppp. support sucks. phone support is bad. almost no forum presence on DSLR and RFD. would not recommend until more is known from the company.
personally from experience you will have the least amount of problems with TSI and have the best customer service and technical support staff hands down.
check their reviews at dslreports.com, they always have a 92%+ or higher rating and are voted the #1 national ISP in Canada. They are that good people it is the sole reason why they are the ONLY ISP i put my name and reputation behind. They are also the the ONLY provider whose services i resell. YES I AM AN AUTHORIZED RESELLER. if you are interested or need help getting signed up or have teksavvy related questions that only teksavvy staff can answer. feel free to pm me anytime.

TRIAL. TWEAK. TEST.
every home and small office has different needs, so it's probably best to tweak your routers settings around to fit those needs according to your setup.
some home require more wireless signal power. some need QoS installed to help load balance it's bandwidth. whatever those are it will require you to learn your new setup... use it and go through several trials to see its performance and evaluate what it's needs are.., tweak it to your needs and finally test it to see if it fits them to your liking. it sounds like a headache at first but once you get that hotspot it will be worth it.

Just to let you know, I went from DD-WRT to this Tomato firmware without having to load the stock Linksys firmware back on it. Of course just make sure you hold the reset button on the back of the router to reset everything.
But it does work & im on Teksavvy._______________

i been getting many questions on RFD and DSLR regarding this. so i had to address all the questions in one spot.
btw my currently bonded speeds with 2 TSI lines , a wrt54gl v1.1 and 2 thomson 516 modems is 10048 kb/s down and 1509 kb/s up
no more throttle with full torrent speeds. and no more ventrilo or VOIP quality degradation or echo.Last edited by infamouskid; May 30th, 2008 at 11:37 AM.
