if you keep a set for 30 years, it's more important to get one that FEELS good. If you like the handle of the Five Star more or Four Star 2 more, then it's well worth it.

Decades... My brother has been using his for 30 years now - sharpened by one once... I would say that the rate of wear, he has another 40 years left or so!
Wow 30 years... very impressive! I'm currently on... maybe just 3 years of use on my Four Star set, not showing any signs of slowing down yet either!

Just don't use one of those motorized sharpeners, use the steel, and sharpen it once in a while and most sets will be able to last a decade or two at least.

different tools.

i actually have both. and they're both great for their intended purpose. the 4 Star knives feel more solid. the Globals are light and agile.

Check out Canadian Tire for some Henckels knives. There's at least 2 forged ones on sale.

As far as I know Canadian Tire does NOT sell German made Henckels knives (so you'd be buying a subpar product there).

Great deal, I have two or three of these and they're incredibly sharp and comfortable to hold.

The handle is plastic but since the blade is thin the weighting is good; a knife doesn't need to be heavy for it to be good quality, and the handle doesn't need to be made out of exotic wood either

Great price for that set. Did you have to pay any duty/taxes at the border?

No, we were there about 47 hours :) Also brought back a Bosch 800 dishwasher (about a 60% discount off of the price here). Paid 6% tax (Michigan).

lugging back a dishwasher is a serious haul......now that's taking proper advantage of cross border shopping

You really have to time your vacations around a 48 hour stay!

Just note - that thicker part of the blade at the handle is really annoying. I have a similar knife and I had it ground down and sharpened. It gets in the way when chopping and slicing. You cant use the whole length of the blade as a result of it. Also, if putting it in a horizontal knife block in a drawer, it wont fit in the slot. Less of an issue if you keep these in the block, which most will likely do.
