But, as a rule, men typically store fat in their trunk area (stomach) while women tend to store fat in the hips, thighs, and butt.
I'm guessing, most kids his age and weight would need about 3,500 calories a day just to maintain their current weight. The number of calories he actually uses obviously will vary depending on activity level, and weight, so it's just a guess. Remember, a pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories. In order for him to gain (or lose) a pound, he'll be increasing ( or decrease ) his net intake of calories by this amount - 3,500.
So if it takes 3,500 calories to maintain your weight, and if between eating and working out , your net intake of calories is more than that, for example 4,000 ( an extra 500 a day ), you'll gain a pound in about a week ( 7 x 500 ).
It doesn't take long put pile on calories if you eat junk food.....
Tim's Bagel & cream cheese or muffin - 425 calories
Big Mac, Fries, Drink - 1,500 calories
Subway 12" sub ( cold cuts ) & Juice - 1.100 calories
1 Molson Canadian Beer - 150 calories
1 Can Classic Coke - 150 calories
1 snickers bar - 275 calories

Sep 26th, 2005 02:14 PM #19There's nothing wrong with Subway at all - with the right choice, you can get a low fat heathy meal there.

Eating low fat food helps - a gram of carbohydrate or protein is 4 calories while a gram of fat is over twice that , 9 calories.
