My girlfriend is currently with Belair. She had her first claim in November, Belair advertised that the first accident does not affect your premium. Sure enough her renewal for next month has gone from 125 per month to 206. When she called they were not in the least bit helpful.
Their rates are aggressive.... until that first claim.

bel air direct or state farm insurance
Hello,
I was just wondering if I should go with Bel Air Direct over state farm to save around $20 a month on insurance? Has anyone had problems with Bel Air when they went for a claim? In addition, would you have any liability on a car with 250,000 kms for 2002 Honda Civic?
Thanks

Call a Broker who deals with several different companies and see what type of rates are available to you.

They were advertising it but if it wasnt on the contract she signed, then they dont have to give it to her...
As for Belair, I have been with them for two years, and no claims yet.
My buddy who is also with them had a jerk key his car from rear fender to front fender on his tiburon. He made the claim, they covered it all and no increase.
He said they were pretty helpful to resolve the claim.

The rates have likely gone up for reasons other than the accident...rates have been going up generally as the economy goes down.
I had a VERY good experience with Belair...they always provided me great prices and were great in the one claim I had.

I have state farm, surprisingly they offered me a much much better rate than bel air when I first bought a car in 2007. couple of months ago, I got a letter that rates are increasing across the board, and sure enough, my premium increased (but not enough to make me look elsewhere yet).
