Has anyone gotten any kind discounts for threatening to cancel Bell Canada Home Phone?
I am not talking about mobile phone, this is just home phone.
This service is too damn expensive._______________

I just switched over to VoIP and Bell retentions called me instantly. They offered me:
Home Phone service which includes:
1050 minutes of Canadian long distance
Caller ID/Call waiting and 3 other features of my selection
AND
Internet service which includes:
Their 6 mbps fiber optic internet service
Free wireless modem.
both for a total of $60.89 without a contract.
I'd say I am a bit tempted by this offer considering I'm already paying upwards of $50.00 for my current DSL internet service which is fairly slow and my VoIP is approximately $10.00 a month. Therefore the cost is pretty much the same.
Anyone have an opinion on this retention deal? Also, does anyone know which plan is their "6 mbps fiber optic" service? Looking at their site, could it be the Fibe 6 plan? Anyone have an opinion on Bell's internet service in terms of reliability and download speeds?

In addition to the fact (pointed out by Sillysimms) that this thread is over a year old, I was forced to get Bell because of the phone setup in my condo.
The condo was originally wired with only FCI Broadband hardware, and I was forced to use that company if I wanted POTS. Only months later did Bell finally install their hardware.
I was fairly satisfied with FCI Broadband, but then they were bought out by (the Evil) Rogers, who was forcing all clients to switch to Rogers Home Phone. I did not want to use RHF, and I did not know that I could get Teksavvy, so I tried to switch to Primus.
I could not get Primus because my phone connection in the condo's basement was physically wired onto the FCI hardware, so they told me I had to sign up for Bell Canada services so their technician could come and re-wire the hardware, which would give me access to Primus due to hardware sharing agreements.
I did this, and got a decent discount, so I stuck with Bell at the time (after the technician showed up at the wrong time, and I spent weeks arguing with their Indians over the discount deal that didn't show up at first.)
So eventually the discounts expired and the Bell service became ridiculously expensive. Then I found out that I could get Teksavvy, so I switched immediately (and ended up arguing with Bell over their scam fees for termination and "accidental" billing of long distance at the wrong rate. I had to go to Kevin Crull's office for that one.)
To make a long story short....
DEATH TO BELL CANADA
LONG LIVE TEKSAVVY!!Last edited by Jucius Maximus; Feb 24th, 2010 at 08:12 PM.
