Yep, now that the CRTC has finished giving it to Canadians from behind by ratifying UBB, we can all watch the bandwidth overages climb and climb. Rogers will follow soon.

Bell increases their overage charges to $60
Just got an email from Bell saying that if you go over your cap limit, the maximum charges have been increased to $60! which is insane!

Time to leave Bell and move to Acanac's unlimited bandwidth plan... even without the 1 year term they are still a better deal

Bell is smart. They wait until the CRTC approved the UBB to increase the overage charges to max $60 / month...
Bell Performance Internet plan:
Ontario - 25GB of usage per month; $2.00/additional GB, (max. $60/mo.),
Québec - 60GB of usage per month; $2.50/additional GB, (max. $60/mo.),
1.Available to residential customers in Ontario, where technology permits. $25 fee applies if you downgrade to slower-speed service. One time activation fee ($29.95) extra; waived for Bell Satellite TV subscribers. Modem rental ($3.95/mo.) extra. 30-day notice required to cancel service. Subject to change without notice and cannot be combined with any other offer. Taxes extra. Other conditions apply, including minimum system requirements.
Speeds on the Internet may vary with your configuration, Internet traffic, server, applicable network management or other factors; see bell.ca/internet.
Available to new customers and existing Bell Internet dial-up customers who sign up for Bell Fibe 6 and at least 1 other select service; see bell.ca/bundle. Monthly rate is $41.95 (subject to change), less $5 credit for months 1 to 12 (ongoing as a Bell TV customer), and $5 Bundle discount. 25 GB of usage per month; $2.00/additional GB, (max. $60/mo.), rounded up to the next MB.
* Current as of October 13, 2010. Comparison between Bell Fibe Internet 25 (upload up to 7 Mbps) and Rogers Hi-Speed Ultimate (upload up to 2 Mbps).1.Available to residential customers in Québec, where technology permits. $25 fee applies if you downgrade to slower-speed service. One time activation fee ($29.95) extra. Modem included at no additional cost. 30-day notice required to cancel service. Subject to change without notice and cannot be combined with any other offer. Unfortunately for those thinking of escaping the cap this won't be so easy even with TSI or Acanac as Bell's UBB will carry onto these ISPs which will be implemented in 90 days. Although prices will still be cheaper for these smaller companies, the cost difference will be very minimal for you to justify for the change.
You can thank our friends at CRTC for approving that too

Technically you wouldn't need this for bell. Assuming you're on Bell than just get the insurance (max 3 times)...
So on Fibe25:
75gb / month
3 x 40gb (insurance) = $15 + tax
195gb / month
I barely use 160gb on my line so this wouldn't really affect me, but i guess if you're used to just letting your bandwidth go for the previous $30 max than it hurts. But Rogers is $50, so not really a huge difference._______________

I wondering using Bell Fibe 16 (for up to 75 GB) is less monthly cost then say Fibe 12 (for up to 50 GBs) + steep over charges? With this in mind, I wondering if ordering Fibe 16 is much better in the long run? Ordering more speed then needed for more B/W usage is an interesting idea...

Me neither although to be fair, Bell's POP3 is utterly crap so I'd die of shock if I did get emails in that account. I don't know if I should cry or what.

You and I switched over to Bell at about the same time, give or take a month. I can't believe you're going back though. Isn't the 7Mbit upload speed enough to justify the $10 different? Who's to say Rogers won't up theirs to $60 in a few months? I think it's about picking your poison.
I think I'll see about getting the extra bandwidth for the nominal fee.

Exact email reads:
Effective January 2011, the maximum usage overage fee will be increased to $60. This change will not likely affect you given your current usage level.
If you wish to modify or cancel your service as a result of thsi change, please call 310-SURF (7873).

Ok that is F'in rediculous - so because I am a heavy user they do not warn me? A$$holes...

To be honest, I never used the 7Mbps up so no - not really worth it. Also - think about the fact if you switch to Rogers, those a$$holes will give you an additional 30% off after 4-6 months through Relations, so that too will offset the price...I say switch. It always hurts them when it comes to stats...Customer relations at bell will do absolutely NOTHING to keep you, no discounts will be offered.._______________
