My guess is it's just the 2Wire 2701HG-G that they're sending out now. It's ADSL2+ compatible but unless you actually subscribe to that service, I don't think there's a point.

Bell Offer - Modem/Router $79.99
Hi, I got a call yesterday from Bell offering a "new technology" modem/router for $79.99 that is supposed to increase my internet connection and an overall improvement. Have any of you received the same call and if so, what are your impressions of it??

It depends on a lot of factors. They seem to be selling people on the 7mb package. If you are on the 5mb, you may not see any speed increase. They will also put you on a capped usage plan of 30/60GB.

Check your speed and check that against what you are paying for. If you pay for 5, but can only get 1.5, then the new package/modem won't do you any good. You can also check your modem stats to check your snr, capped rate, etc. and see if you CAN get a faster speed.
My best advice would be to avoid BS. They have several shady dealings going on right now, which are angering many people. You can get the same performance cheaper by checking out these other providers.

Wow you are getting just over 1mb connection and your probably paying for 5mb I'm guessing? You are getting ripped off pretty nice.
& this new modem from bell is also a load of crap. I suggest when you are done your contract you leave bell and go to a real isp. you can find many on Canadianisp.ca I suggest teksavvy.com great company you will save money and the tech support will actually help you._______________

I have the regular high speed, is that 5mb? But maybe I should say that I am on my laptop which is a floor under my current router. So this router/modem thing isn't worth it? Just another waste of time?

If you are on regular high speed then yes you should get 5mb Soon to be 7mb (if your line can handle it of course)
Are you connected by a cat5/6 network cable or are you using a Wireless router? If you are using a wireless router then I sugest you take you laptop to your router and hook it up using a cat5/6 network cable just to be 100% sure your slow speeds are now caused by a weak wireless signal.
Also that Bell Wireless Modem thing is not worth it for $80 You could buy a better quality better supported router for around the same price & less. Dont waste your time with bells crap, the guys that call you and tell you your connection will be faster with the new modem dont know anything about DSL or computers for that matter they just want to sell and make money. Another reason why bell sucks!_______________

Don't forget money!!!
If you see what the speed is right at the modem and it is still about 1mb, then you are paying way too much. You can call and see if they will (or can) correct it, or charge you for what you are getting. Are you the kind of person who likes to pay for 50 liters of gas, but only gets 10 liters?
The new modem won't help, but there may be other factors like the distance from the co, inside wiring quality, etc. that are limiting your speed.

Yup so your not getting anywhere near what you should be getting Especially if you were getting 3mb before. I would call them again and tell them to d something if to switch companies like I said, I suggest Teksavvy you wont believe how good they actually are.
This company will do their best to get you the best speed they can. Its worth it you have nothing to lose, and depending on how much your paying now you might even save some $$ even if you cant get faster speeds._______________

I just watched marketplace on cbc and noticed that on an upcoming episode they are looking at dsl providers, the speed that people are getting (or not getting) and what they are paying for. I wonder if this is the beginning of a mini series about BS and their MANY other problems. Maybe this will make more people wonder about the service they are getting (or not) and send them looking at various speedtest sites. I can imagine BS phone lines being tied up for the next week.
