Benefits of filing Canadian tax as a US citizen
Can someone please tell me why should I file Canadian tax, even though I am US citizen and residing in US for 2 years? I worked and lived in Canada for 5 years before moving to U.S. I have filed all past years, but wondering if I should do it this year and in future...
Thanks,

Thanks,
If you are not Canadian citizen and you do not have any income made in Canada, you may not need to file canadian tax return. However if you are Canadian citizen and you didn't declare as non-resident when you move to US, you may have to file Canadian Tax return as you are required to report world-wide income.

Actually, I went to US from Canada. So CAD immigration knows I am living in US. Also, I had filed last two years as non-resident Canadian tax. I just don't know if I should continue doing it. It may have to do with my retired pension or future benefits if I come back.

Considering you don't have Canadian income, it's not needed.
And for much of the benefits from filing you have to be resident in Canada, and you are not.

Canadian Tax Filing
Here is my situation:
Left Canada on July 26, 2008 to the US on TN employment to California. Filing 1040EZ and 540NR in the US for 2008.
No income in Canda for 2008. Left Canada on November 15, 2007 to learn music in an Asian country and returned April 15, 2008. 102 days stay in Canada during 2008. In my T1 for 2008 do I just say departure January 1, 2008?
