They're all about the same price, so get the Pioneer.

Pioneer 212D doesn't support booktype setting. So I picked the Samsung S183.

With the popularity of Pioneer burners it'll be a matter of time before they come out with a firmware that have auto booktype setting.

I don't know why those morons at Pioneer just doesn't do it themselves. I guess they're in the -R camp.

Guess this therad isn't too old to bump...
I'm in the market for a new DVD writer as well and I'm not sure which one to get. I suppose I may as well get Sata for the better airflow, and the popular choice seems to be the Pioneer 212. However I'm undecided now between the Pioneer and the Samsung S183 because of the following post:
Any thoughts? Your help is appreciated.

Hmmm I was talking to the manager at Filtechcomputer. He said the Samsung burners aren't so good. He said too many problems or something.
I picked up a Pioneer 212D. It's great._______________
