Best bet for broadband?
Hi, I'm looking to help out a family member that just got an apartment in downtown Toronto. we want to get high speed internet and want to find the best deal. My family member has a cell phone (Bell), thus does not need a land line and will not be paying for cable TV of any kind (so, no bundle deals).
If anyone has any advice on what the best deal around is, please let me know. If there are any student discounts out there, I'd also like to know of that.
Thanks in advance!

Is Rogers the best way to go?

Newbie
Go for Rogers if you can put up with slow speeds and billing errors every month. I live at Yonge and College, the maximum I donwload at is about 100Kbps. I've had it in scarborough before and same problems.

Rogers is cutting newsgroup access starting december. I would get 3web High speed.

I have personally used Rogers, Bell, Vif.com(DSL), Aei.ca (DSL) & ca.inter.net (DSL)
I found DSL to be the most realibale and consistent in terms of speed and I've never had my DSL go down.
If you choose one of the smaller providers, you'd also be saving $15.00 a month.
Aei, ca.inter.net & vif.com all charger $29.95/Month If you have your own modem.
You can purchase the Speedstream 5260 (that's what I have and is compatible with all DSL providers) for under $30.00 canadian including shipping on ebay.
Bell & Rogers's Regular pricing is $44.95/month. $45 x 12 = 540
DSL with smaller providers = $30 x 12 = $360 + $30 for modem = $390
You save $150 right off the bat.. (obviously, prices don't include taxes..)
There's also 3web, I've had no experience with them. I did see in another thread that they charge some sort of $20.00 software fee.
