How would I ask my Google Home to Turn or Off my Mi Box. I have Mi Box connected to my Samsung TV so CEC is there but when I say Hey Google, turn on TV" it doesn't work. I even changed the name of the device to TV in the MiBox settings.
My Tv, under CEC settings has a specific setting that allows an outside device to turn on tv. I dont believe CEC allows the outside device to turn off the tv, but, the tv can turn off the outside device with its remote. Have you checked the CEC settings on the MiBox?

I hope that there's one of these in the Oval Office.
Newbie question, picked the google home. Which version of chromecast should I get to further enhance the GH' functions? Gen 1 or 2 or ultra? I Beleive those are the 3 that are out... Tia!

Why buy? For me, I get a lot more use of my Spotify account with it. Works great with the Philips Hue as well. Also, I like gadgets. Solid gadget right here.

Doesnt matter. The software for all devices are updated all the time. Only thing that differs is Gen 2 was an upgrade on the hardware (its a bit quicker, and the radios are upgraded) from there the Ultra is simply 4k... No real difference overall. I'd just get the gen 2, unless you have a 4k TV and want that functionality. For that though, I would try to get my hands on a MiBox from the US, which is roughly the same price as an Ultra.

I think its over priced even at $40 as it doesnt do anything, it seems so basic imo worth about $10 max
It's easily worth $40 to me. I use it on a daily basis as it provides a level of convenience and automation that more than makes up for the cost.

If you can't see any use for it then that's fine. To each their own!

I love this thing. Controls my hue lights, my chromecast audio speakers and my tv with the harmony hub not to mention every other little thing this assistant does.
39.99$ is an awesome deal.
I love it too! Just had it hooked up the other day. Will add the mini speaker to compliment this in annother room. Great price too!

i know, but its been confirmed that several governments actually do access the cameras and microphones on our devices as they see fit.
Am I the only one that wish they would do that???

If that means they catch one more terrorist before he blows up. I don't mind if they listen to my boring life, what the hell do you guys have to hide??

hmm..i wish it will work with other app like Kodi...such as "ok google, start Kodi...play Walking Dead seasion 1 episode 3"
You would probably be able to do this using IFTTT + a home server like Raspberry Pi + Node JS.

They can manipulate you to led you to believe what you think you want is what you want.
This thing has a TON more practical value to Google than it does to us.

Yeah. Pretty much every global product is about what they can get out of it (rather than what it will give to the customers/clients).

True but I hate it when family members leave the lights on when I am watching a movie. So it's great to turn them off with just a command without out getting up!
Up votes, down votes, they're all votes for me! I thank you!

Random kitchen timers.
Living room nap alarm clock.
Can't sleep mad libs from bed.
But for me, mainly home automation.
The automation part is a Google Assistant feature though, you don't need a Google Home for that. It's just a speaker and mic to act as a node.
The myth on the Internet is that Canadians are nice people. Those people who say this just haven't been on RFD.

True enough, but it's a speaker and mic that's always working without having to dig out my phone and wake it.
Again, call it lazy, but it's exactly that.
So unless you need the better speaker, the mini is really the best buy.
