i bought the 15" version on amazon last month for 1199$ and the battery died after 3weeks. Im not sure if its comon or not but its something to be considered. I returned it and probably will not buy an other one for that reason. Its unfortunate because i really loved the laptop.

100 bucks off $2000?

what has RFD become!!?
If you're simply looking at the advertised discount price, I'd agree with you. However,if you do some research on 17" models laptops with gtx1070, you'll quickly realize that 1,649$ is an amazing price. Regardless of the 100$ discount. BestBuy is selling this well below MSRP.

The display is G-SYNC, too. I haven't personally experienced one myself, but I've read the difference is tangible. This is a very solid deal that I'd jump on if I didn't already have a 1070 in my desktop. As nice as it'd be to game while the wife's on the TV, I don't think I'd actually do it.

That Dell, on the other hand, is pretty attractive at that price...

I think you're kind of missing the point. This is a really great price, so obviously it's not going to have bleeding-edge specs. The 6700HQ is a respectable processor that will pair extremely well with the 1070. New generation mobile processors gain ~10% in synthetics, real world performance boost (i.e. gaming) will not be hardly noticable.

Battery life may be better with the new processors, but you aren't buying this laptop for it's battery life. If it was a last generation Nivida GPU that would a different story, but a Skylake CPU is completely fine.

The deal isn't about the CPU but the GPU. For this price you can usually expect an I7-7700HQ but with a GTX 1060. This combo (i7-6700HQ + GTX 1070) will perform much better.
Going from the i7-6700HQ to the i7-7700HQ will only give you marginal gains, mostly battery runtime. Going from the GTX1060 to the GTX1070 will give you almost 30% performance increase.

Is this the Gsync model? It does not specify on the product page, unless I'm missing it.

This is a really really good deal for the graphic card spec...was considering a machine like this initially but I am too casual of a gamer to be spending this kind of money. Wound up getting the Lenovo Y520 deal with the 1060 from earlier this year.

It seems like this version of the laptop doesn't come with an SSD right?

Are these laptops easy to open and upgrade?

Yes, I belive there are two NVMe 2280 slots not to mention the 2.5 bay that had the 1TB HDD already. RAM is also easy to change.
