[Best Buy] Denon AVR-S720W - Bestbuy - 399$ - Boxing Day

I am not any sort of Audio expert, but does this not seem like a ridiculous deal for this receiver?

Can somebody tell me if this is any good, and how it compares to others around the same price range (399$)

This is a good deal at this price. However after looking at reviews on Amazon, a lot of users report a bug wherein no sound comes out of the speakers...
Personally that would put me off buying this unit.

LOL that sounds like more than a "bug" to me given one of the main functions/purposes of an AVR is to "have sound come out of the speakers"

That's like saying there's a great sale on a coffee maker...only it has a common "bug" where no coffee comes out of it! Most people would call that plain broken.

I bought the S700W model two years ago from BB on Boxing Day for $349. I love it, even though I had to get it repaired this year. Luckily I was smart enough to have Best Buy email me a copy of the receipt when I bought it, which I used for the RMA. I drove the unit to an authorized repair depot in Markham to get it fixed, but it was hassle-free.

This week the unit even asked me if I wanted to upgrade it's firmware. So they're still supporting a two year old model which is great. Overall, I think it's a good receiver.

Ah yeah I found it. Also found the hilarious post where the guy managed to return the AVR he bought and kept the speakers at $99, thinking he made off like a bandit. Only problem was the guy didn't have any existing amp to drive the speakers

Not a bad deal--better than a soundbar or most HTIBs I guess, but nothing special. Those speakers really aren't worth the reg price.

Only 2 composite audio inputs... That's a sign of the times if I've ever seen one. Just my turntable and cd player and that's it, no more analog.

"Composite" is a term used for analog video ("the yellow RCA") because it's actually a composite of luminance and chroma (as opposed to other analog video connections where it's separate).

But analog "RCA" audio (which is not called composite) you're correct there's only two of those on there. However neither of those two inputs is a phono input. If you plan on connecting a turntable you will have to be sure you get a phono pre-amp to connect it, unless your particular turntable has a built-in pre-amp (a lot of newer turntables have this but not older ones).

I've got this receiver from the Black Friday sales and it's $50 cheaper. I bought it to drive my 4 ohm B&W front speakers and I love the features on it. Does anyone know what the process will be during boxing week in terms of price matching?
