I'm pretty sure if I bought a Playstation Classic it'd also just sit around collecting dust but I still kind of want to pick one up.
This is the dilemma we have as grown men, I speak flippantly about purchasing a PSC, and yet I realize I'm probably getting one.

With the new emulator release, this thing is now capable of storing and smoothly running virtually every PSOne game in existence, all on an ultra-slim flash drive.

What is the best emulator for this?

Same here. I probably haven't touched my NES Classic in over a year but I play quite a few NES games on my Switch with Nintendo Switch Online. Not being tied to a TV to play is amazing!

They're working on a bunch of consoles. Be doubtful about their plans for the PSVita, Gamecube, and the like though.

Some folks are making wild claims in this thread.

All the old stuff like MAME should be worked out on the PSC. It's the newer consoles that will be a challenge.

Zero info on that. Go on YT, if you find anything, share it here. No links to ROMs, please.

If you already have emulators/games for the systems u want to play, on another device and controllers setup, and you don't use that, what's the point of getting the PSC? It's the same thing basically.
Just for the hardware

Would be a plus if it can be modded and messed up with

Gentlemen, skip ahead to minute 6:50ish.

The new emulator build is solid. Apologies for the boring narrator.

Yeah I understand, I got one as well, but mostly just to mess with modding and to have a portable system for 2 player games. $30 is cheap for something like this. I thought the previous poster was asking a question if they should get this, when they have an android box with emulation capabilities that they don't use.
I usually see the challenge/fun time in getting something working but once it's done, I figure out don't really have much interest in playing retro games.
I also like having the hardware otherwise I would keep telling myself, this time it's different, I'll actually use it unlike before :)

Comes with HDMI, bud. The homebrew emulator takes care of the video settings.

It's 2019.
On the old days, the developers needed to know how the TV works and they took in consideration how the electrons are thrown into the screen which helped them filling the screen with with minimum specs. With lcd, you have to draw the image pixel by pixel.
This is why some people prefer playing these games on CRT TVs

general question.
do you need to use a powered usb hub to play any two player games on an emulator?
As one of the controller ports is taken up by the usb drive.

aka 2 player mario bros ect.

Thanks
