Best Company to Process Online Payments
Hi,
I am new to the forum and to running my own business. We are a small company who need to be able to take payment and a deposit online for our service. Once the service is complete, I need to be able to refund the deposit. We won't have a very high volume of transactions. I was wondering what you would suggest for taking payment. I want to do it at the lowest cost to me (don't we all). Guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds like a Virtual Terminal is what you're looking for. You manually enter the information.
Runs approx $30/month + 2%ish. You can check http://feefighters.ca which is like a kayak for credit card processing. I use Helcim.com

Hi,
I am not sure I understand - are you going to use online processing just for deposit/refund, or some of the money is actually going to stay in your account? (as in - you will use your online processing to accept payments without the refund part)
If it's just the deposit/refund thing, most companies I know of (including the one I sell for) would not be willing to deal with you. It will also be detrimental to your business - some of the companies out there charge you a fee for refunds (around $25 per item), aside from you paying the transaction fees.
If you are interested in discussing this further, or in the options we offer, please send me a private note. Be careful regardless of the company you deal with.
Cristian.

Entirely depends on what your selling.

I don't want to upset anyones choice, so, just be aware that they aren't all the same.

Credit card which is the majority of transactions i would guess is 2.2% + 25 cents.
EDIT: It also depends on volume, if you don't have that expect to pay more.

Well, let me say this again:
Virtual terminal (where you manully input the CC info on a website):
Do not accept a flat rate higher than 2.25% + 10 cents per transaction.
E-commerce (your website has a shopping cart):
Not higher than 2.5% + 12 cents per transaction.
In both cases, some providers may be able to do a little better.
Your volume should not make any difference unless you go over $75K to $80K per month. (or over 5 to 7 hundred transactions per month)
Cristian.

You are correct.
I only do eChecks which are are 99 cents, so I didn't even look at credit cards.

paypal ends up being preferred because of the ease of use. If you lose one sale because of difficult check out that it.
