Best destination south during Xmas?

Looking at travelling South during Xmas from Ottawa/Mlt. All inclusive. Any suggestions other than Cuba (been there) without busting the bank?
Thanks in advance.

Book it asap...

I booked for Christmas and July and our flights/hotels went up $300 a person over a matter of month (during August).

What is your price range??

We always travel during that time... Do you want to be there over Christmas or over New Years or both? Going over Christmas but returning before NYE is always less expensive.

For many years we went to Mexico but the weather started to get iffy- great resorts tho. For 2k pp you could probably go to Mexico, Dominican maybe Jamaica. I would avoid Bahamas we froze there one Christmas/ NYE

A cheap vacation is not going to happen during Christmas. If you can wait until January, prices will be better.

Unless obligations for your job or kids require you to travel right at Christmas, I'm echoing everyone else's sentiments to wait until mid January if you can. Not only are prices at their highest during the break, but airports are overcrowded, lineups take forever for everything, and if anything goes wrong (ie flight delays, weather, etc) there are very few alternates to book. If you're going south, don't even think about doing a one-stop flight, the weather/traffic issues make it much riskier, pay more for direct flights if necessary.

All that being said, you can get some pretty decent resorts for that budget in Mexico, Dominican, and possibly Jamaica. Also worth checking out Barbados for something a little different and less crowded. Take advantage of any charter companies offering early booking bonuses (ie Air Canada Vacations, Transat Holidays, etc), most of those expire at some point in September or October. The earlier you book, the better selection and better prices you'll have.

With 2k/person, you can probably do a Mediterranean trip, either to Italy or Greece.
