Best eco-friendly salt free ice-melt/traction product?

What do you use and where did you buy it?

I think HomeHardware carries eco-traction, volcanic rock but I wonder how bad is the CO2 footprint on that? To harvest that and transport it...

Reno-Depot/RONA seems to carry a green one but it's not entirely salt free IIRC

I use sand then in the spring i brush it back into the cracks between the stones. Doesn't melt but my house faces south so any snow/ice is gone quickly.

I just shovel. But I read u can use biodegradable kitty litter, Safe Paw (at Bulk Barn?), or woodchips.

Well, salt is going to negatively affect your cement in the long run.

I use the OLD SCHOOL SALT on the sidewalk ... who cares if it destroys it! It's the government's! If it's wrecked .. they will fix it ... if they damage the driveway when fixing the sidewalk ... they have to fix it too!

When you shovel the sidewalk ... just toss the snow and salt to the lower section towards the street ... that section belongs to the government. If the grass is damaged .. who cares! It's NOT mine!

I mix Alaskan with OLD SCHOOL SALT for the the TOP of the driveway (along the garage door) and the walkway to the front door.

There is NO NEED to salt your entire driveway! It's a waste of salt. Nobody walks on the driveway ... and the part that is below the sidewalk, who cares about that! Nobody walks there but the UPS/Canada Post people (and do they come all the time ... definitely NOT).
