Best Home phone Deal

Wasn't sure which would be best forum to post this but figured other new/move home owners would have looked around.

Moving to Grimsby and Cogeco offers free phone for 3 months trial, Cost is then $44.95 a month

I think basic phone with Bell is about $23.00 on special.

Any other suppliers to consider?

i went with yak communications.....yak.ca.....

home phone is 25 bucks, 500 min canada long distance plan is another 5, and so is caller id. so just over 40 dollars with tax and no hidden fees.

i have used their dial around for long distance for a long time and have been pleased (1010925) but hope the home phone will be just as good!

I would stay away from Bell at all cost. Took them more than a year to repair my phone jack.

I had Bell for over 30 years at my previous house and they responded well to issues for me.

The previous winter my underground lines were so corroded my service went. They hooked me up to my neighbours line (with their permission, they had Rogers phone) and as soon as the ground thawed in the spring they were out to lay new wire.

We are in a temporary apartment and the landlord told us on the first day that they were having issues with the phone and Bell was coming on Sunday to check the lines. Service guy came and replaced the lines on time.

I think a lot of Bells service problems are from their billing and accounting areas more than their technical support.

Anyway Bell wouldn't give me the special come back to Bell rate as I am not porting a phone number back (Don't have one right now) so will take Cogeco's free service for 3 months then switch to Bell. They will give me a 2 year rate at $27.00 which gives caller ID, visual call waiting, touchtone and 911. I will then get Yak to provide my LD service. This is the best deal I can find at this time.

If anyone has a better deal let me know.

Same here - I use their LD service with a regular Bell line. No monthly fees or contracts, just 3.5c a minute LD in North America.

$17.95 gets you unlimited LD calling in North America.

$29.95 in Europe and Asia.

However if you're going to do a lot of LD calling, might be worth looking into a VoIP line.

Go with acanac, do a search on RFD.. I've been using acanac voip for the last 2 years, and for $9.99/month with unlimited north american long distance is a steal.. Pick up your own adapter on craigslist or kijiji, and you're off..

You have to pay upfront for the year... but i highly recommend for the price.

Total bill with tax is $76.91.

It's all Bell's equipment and service; the only thing that changes is that you speak to a Canadian, not an Indian, when you have problems.

1. What is the Bell residual bill you get?
For example, my current Bell bill covers Jan28-Feb27. Will I get a residual Bell bill for Feb27-Mar8 if I sign up with Teksavvy today?
Or when the connection occurs if not right away ie; there is bill overlap.
2. I've had Bell at this house for over 5y. Is there also a Bell disconnect fee I'm unaware of?
3. Will my long distance carrier be unaffected? We're with Rapidtel 4c/min. Since we use hardly, if any long distance, it's our best option.

There is no disconnect fee with Bell. Bell will charge you only for the days you have their service up to the switch over date. Although TSI bills when you order, you will not be paying twice for the same service period. As for long distance, you will switch to Teksavvy and their North American rate is 2.9 c/min. which beats your current rate.

I would stay away from Rapidtel. They have terrible customer service and they charge you $1.50 each time they send you a bill. They charge me more for sending a bill than my long distance. There are better out there.
