Best Option to Invest in Gold

I currently have a TD e-series TFSA and a TD e-series RRSP. My asset mix between the two is currently 20% bonds, 20% CDN equities, 30% US equities, 30% international equities.

I would like to add some gold to my asset mix. My question is, what is my best option, given that I cannot purchase gold (physical, ETF, funds, stocks, etc.) using my e-series funds?

I plan to accumulate gold over the next little while, purchasing it twice per month at the same time as I currently buy my funds (or once per month if I'm going to have to pay commission each time). I'm looking for recommendations on platform (Questrade?) and type of investment (physical, ETF, funds).

I would appreciate all input.

Thanks!

You could try GLD (SPDR Gold Trust (ETF)) on the nyse.

All things equal, I'd prefer to hold physical gold, but I'd like to keep this in my RRSP, which means that Questrade is pretty much my only option.

What do you guys think of the TD Precious Metals Fund (TDB648)? I can buy this in my existing e-series account, without commission (unlike ETFs), which would make things easier (I recognize there's a 2+% MER).

Thoughts?

Here are my thoughts after considering it for awhile... basically a modification of the Couch Potato Portfolio. I'd be interested to hear any comments (good, bad, indifferent).

CDN Index: 20% ----> 20%
US Index: 30% ----> 25%
CDN Bond Index: 20% ----> 20%
Int'l Index: 30% ----> 25%
Precious Metals Fund: 0% ----> 10%
