SpeakOut also currently offers a free phone when you buy $100 airtime. That deal will end by year end. I mention this because if you switch the phone you have for Virgin won't work with SpeakOut (or anyone else.)

Rogers has a plan that is 1 cent/minute evenings (after 8pm) and weekends. It is 39 cents/min during weekdays though, so depending on when you use the phone, this might be a good plan.

I think Speakout 7-11 is the best one. $25 for a 365 day fillup.

I currently have Fido which is $10 minimum per 30 days. I have to refill manually every 30 days. They have an auto-refill option but it only refills on the same calendar day per month. For example filling up on the 1st of each month isn't that great if the current month has 28 or 31 days. I'm going to switch to speakout soon because fido and speakout run on the same network anyway.

+1 for Speakout. I've got my mom on it for over a year now and it's great. They made some changes starting with the new year, used to work out to $0.20 /min if you bought $50+ topups. Looks like that's gone, so $0.25 across the board, but it appears to still be the best bang for the buck considering the topsups last 365 days regardless of value.

who said its 35c a minute..i have been on the pre-paid with Virgin and its 10c/min

http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/plans/pre ... mmary.html

and i know Fido has a similar plan..

That 10c a minute is if you pay $10 a month to start, the 35c is true pay by the minute.
We use Petro Canada and love it the 7-11 deal is better now because the minutes last 1yr.

If you are inside Mobilicity's coverage area why not go with them.

probably because mobi's cheapest plan is $25.
there are people who simply do not need unlimited minutes.
some people are looking to spend only around $10 per month, for the very basic plan, for mostly emergency purposes.

For Rogers minimum top-up amount, does the balance have to be used up fully on a monthly basis or can it be stored on the account for a longer period of time?

You can store it for a long period provided you top up before it expires. At one point I was carrying a balance over 200.00$

$100 for 365 days voucher from Rogers Plus stores. All plans are available. My dad and brother are on the All day plan:

25¢/ minute for the first 5
minutes you talk each day

15¢/ minute for all other
minutes of the same day

Pay as you go is great for minimal cell phone usage.
