Best pre-owned family vehicle with 2 kids

Baby #2 is on the way, we need to get rid of our VW Golf. Looking for something pre-owned so we avoid the new car price and good for 2 kids, which means 2 car seats.

My wife doesn't want anything big like a highlander or minivan.

What would be a good make and year? And a good range of used kilometres to consider?

Subaru's are good. Safe, reliable and they retain their price.

Most family cars don't come with two kids.

Subarus = more than one Subaru. "There were six Subarus parked in a row."
Subaru's = belonging to a Subaru. "The Subaru's doors are solid."
Subarus' = belonging to more than one Subaru.
Su'baru's = Klingon :)

What's wrong with the Golf? It can easily accommodate 2 car seats. Perfect family car, IMHO.

For what its worth, I don't think you absolutely need to get rid of your Golf

Any family. There is a reason it's the second best selling car on the planet (Corolla is number 1).

I am 6'5" and getting a car seat behind me is impossible. We made it work with one kid but won't be able to do it with 2

I know some car seats take up a lot of room compared to others and it's not very pleasant if the kids feet can reach your seat :)

get a minivan, the most sensible choice.

get a minivan, the most sensible choice. A if not a minivan, sth. like a CRV is good, but pre-owned is not cheap.
